Tunze stream power failure back up

Would the back up battery that vortech sells work to power a Tunze stream 6060? We are having frequent thunderstorms this year and we sometimes lose power for several hours. I am looking for a backup power source that coud just keep one or two Tunze streams running for several hours if the power fails while I am away. I think that would be enough to keep my fish alive until the main circulations comes back on. I am looking for something that I can leave hooked up and will come on automatically.

Any suggestions?

I think the Vortech unit puts out low voltage to drive there pumps which are also low voltage (like a 6101 or 6201, they are DC) I could be wrong but I think that is how they work. You would just want to use a basic UPS system. A word of caution, a 6060 will not start well on a UPS system but once running can stay running, a 6060 requires a true 60Hz pattern to run (US model) and a UPS makes a simulated 60Hz pattern that causes trouble with start up.

hi roger,

would the 6055 have any problems running on a UPS?

thanks

My 6055 runs fine on an APC RS 800, I think it gets like 3-4 hours.

I run the safety connector and a 10ah SLA battery and get 40 hours of runtime. I would really recommend this route, and its really easy to setup. The sealed lead acid batteries are the same ones as used in an UPS so there isnt any more risk having the battery in the house. My setup was about $120 total.

Initially I wanted to just purchase something pre-built, but this is so much better. Tunze knows what they are doing
