Tunze Stream Recommendation for 180

Roger,

Can you recommend a Tunze stream kit for my BB 180 gallon with a center overflow box? Right now my returns come up on each side of the overflow box.

What about placement? I'd like to avoid the side walls, if practicable. maybe one on each side of the overflow box, pointing toward the sidewall?

Thanks.

I just got 2 6100's and a 7095 for my 180, That and my return pump is all i need. The detrius started flying as soon as i started them up.;) I have the same style tank and each in the opposing back corners is working great.

In general I agree with Creetin but if you will mainly be keeping corals like Euphyllias and Elegance like I see in your picture, 2 6000 may be the best way to go.

If the water level drops below the pump (i.e., it runs dry), will that damage the pump?

Yes, but I think you would have to seriously neglect your tank for that to happen, for water changes just unplug them.

Can these pumps just sit on a PVC shelf? Or can I mount them to the internal overflow box?

The flow rate would likely exceded your overflows capacity, not to mention it defeats the purpose of the overflow box since the water would drain to the point you mounted the Streams in a power failure which would be very bad. I suppose you could make a PVC shelf for them though.

Look at my sig for the Tunze's in my 180

Here is a vid you want a taste. Actually 2 vid one of the wave box and one with everything running .

It says that the dimensions of the 6100 are 3.9 x 4.6". I'm assuming 4.6 is the length, right?

Yes, 3.9 is the diameter.
