Tunze Stream recommendation

My tank is 72"x18"x24" and I am desperately in need of some more water movement > I am very interested in your Turbelle Stream pumps. I was thinking the 6080 would be sufficient for my tank. Do you agree or would you suggest something else?

Also is a controller required or suggested? If so which controller?

Thanks, Jimmy

I would agree that this pump will do a good job in an SPS reef, the flow will be not quite as random as I would like. The 6080 CANNOT be used with controllers. Wave makers will ruin the pump. To control a pump you need the low voltage Electronic pumps like 6100. If you used the 6080 say in combination with a Seaswirl I think you would have very good results.

Thanks for the quick reply Roger. Actually I am running a Sea Swirl (1/2inch) and some Maxi-Jets (6) and am not getting enough flow IMO. My Reef consists of SPS, LPS and some Softies.

Sounds like the 6080 in combination with my Sea Swirl and possibly some of the Maxi-Jets may do the job.

I'd appreciate any suggestions you could give me.

I contacted Marine Depot and they said they should be getting the 6080 pumps in a couple of weeks and do not currently have any in stock. Can I order from the Tunze website and do you know if they are currently in stock?

By the way ,this is a great forum . Thanks again for you help.:)

I would position the Seaswirl on the one side pane and the 6080 on the other side pane. Check your PM during the day, I think I got you taken care of on a pump. The Tunze ordering is for dealers only and it is forwarded to me. Unfortunately Tunze is way behind and it will be a while before I have more 6080 Streams. We do not sell direct but I am here to help if you need anything further.

Looks like I'll be getting that pump,I think. Do you foresee a problem with that pump blowing my sand around? Its a Fine Deep Sand Bed.

Your tank is reasonably deep that if you mount it say 3-4" below the surface you should be OK. You may have to

A. position some rock to baffle the flow in areas

B. surface your substarte with a coarse coral granulat

You will have to try it, I generally use 2-3" of Knop Reefbase as I like that grain and the substrate is extremely clean so I don't have to rinse. This media is about 2-3mm grain. I have had few problems with this but a sugar sand is likely to require one of the above mods.

I have a 36"Wx24"Dx28"H tank with 2 returns (Little Giant Pump) and 1 drain (1 1/2). If I do NOT want any power head, what Tunze product do you recommend for good water movement? Any advice would be appreciated. Peace.

We only make powerheads. I think you might consider either a Sea Swirl or a top mounted power head like a 2002 Turbelle Classic.

Is one Turbelle classic (2002 model) enough water movement for an SPS tank? Also, can you set this pump to a hardware timmer or do you have to buy the controller?

I have heard good stuff of the Stream. Will that be the better way to go, rather than the classic? Let me know and thank RVITKO for the quick response.

Peace

I had a reef tank of 36" by 24" by 21" and I used 2 2002 pumps and had very good success. I think the small Electronic Stream 6000 would be a very good choice for this tank too.
