Tunze Streams for 125 gallon

Hello. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m buying a set of Tunze Streams and the 7095 controller this weekend. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not sure if I should go with the two 6000ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s or two 6100ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s. My tank is an AGA Reef Reedy 125 Gallon (72x18x22) with 160 pounds of rock and a shallow sand bed. I only have a couple of softies as of now but I plan on adding some SPS and clams within the next few months. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m in the process of rebuilding and re-plumbing my sump and realized my return pump is too powerful (1200GPH) and causing lots of micro bubbles. I plan on using a weaker pump for the return (600-700GPH) and need more circulation in the tank. I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t want any powerheads at all. Which models do you recommend and where should I mount them? Thanks. Dom

Dom, I would try to contact Reef Exotics, I know they may be a ways a way as they are on LI, but I think it would be better if you can see for your self. This is a tough call, if it was SPS I would say 2 6100, you have a lot of rock, leading me to believe the structure is dense and will impede flow so more flow is needed. On the other hand- 2 6100's may be too much for softies. I think unless you can go check it out for yourself get 2 6000's, if it is not enough, it costs about $70 a pump to upgrade to 6100's you just have to change the transformer. You would only be out a few more dollars over starting with the 6100's. Reef Exotics is a sponsor here so they should be easy to find.

Thanks. That's actually where I'm buying them from. Anthony told me the 6000's should work well with a 125 since it's a pretty narrow tank (only 18"). Hmm. I guess I'll wait until I get there like you said and check it out for myself. I'll take a pic of the tank later so you can see my rock structure. It's basically just a wall of rock but I left plenty of gaps for circulation.

I ended up going with the 6100's. I have one in each corner of the tank (in the rear) facing the middle of the front glass. I have a nice bald spot in my sand bed and the Tunze's are at only 60% max. I plan on getting some magnets (not sure if this would help) sometime this week. Where do you recommend the pumps be positioned? This is a a 125 AGA Megaflow tank (twin overflows). Thanks.
