Tunze streams...

Only downside to that is there not. People complain more about the startups with the maximod than people do with seios. You should anticipate malfunctions if the PH is in need of cleaning, but the maxi's can have the same problems right after the assembly, including starting up turning the wrong way more consistantly than the seios unfortunately, because I agree with the output potential and low energy consumption the choice would be alot easier to make.

Mine (maxi mods) have been running for about 2 years now 24/7 without any issues. Always start up after power outage or plug in. Sure I clean them out every few months for any calcium deposit and such but you would have to do that with any pumps or powerheads anyway even the Tunze.

As for the reverse spinning, that is why there is a stopper to stop the propeller and force it to start the right direction. The people who complained about the reverse spinning never bothered to put in a stopper into their mods so....

IMO unless you wanted the fully controllable models of the Tunze and their nice electronic controllers, there is no point to a Tunze. A non-controllable Tunze is pretty just an over priced propeller driven pump.

Tunze streams push more water then any other powerhead for the amoubt of watts used.. In time they will pay for themselves.. Less heat transfered, lesss watt consumption which means lower powerbill.. I recomend two 6100's with controller. Well worth the investment! Lots of advantages tunzes has over other powerheads. If you do a close loop, for a tank that size your looking at a pump that uses serious watts..

That's not neccessarily true. I have seen tests done of the MJ1200 mod side by side with Tunze 6060 and Tunze 6080 models. The MJ mod looked and felt stronger than the 6060 and about the same as the 6080 model.

If you are concerned about heat and power usage, maybe you can look into the Vortech as well. Granted the nice electronic Tunze controller does provide some very nice random wave action control.

Welll I was just browsing on ebay and I saw this kit...It looks like a wavemaker machine like RedSea's wavemaker and you can buy just the machine or outlet with 4 plugging areas....

Or you can buy the whole kit of the machine or outlet wavemaker and 4 maxijets ....They have different maxijets from the 1200s to the lower gph pumps...

It looks actually pretty promising....

And since it is a wavemaker...I could buy this now and do mj modifications later when I have the time and read up more on it...

-Has anyone seen these or had experience with them...

I dont believe you:D I need to do some testing to verify that! Please send me a prototype, so I can further establish this for you :D :D

PS. You fallin for it yet??:D

I don't know Justin...I think I'am falling for the Maxijet Mods...Especially if I can get this wavemaker thing on ebay... i also checked there website...And it looks like a pretty simple device that alternates and turns off and on the maxijet pumps...

Whatever it is I think I may buy this wavemaker thing and do mods after I hear more info about it...Maybe Justin we should do a diy workshop sometime and make these mods...I'am pretty sure everyone has to have a maxijet in their collection of tank stuff...

-Although, 4 1200 Maxijets with mods...Wouldn't that be a good wavemaking system...

-Ohh after doing the mods does this decrease or increase the original wattage ...I thought I read on one of the forums that these mods are a little bit more energy efficent...(I'am not sure)dhnguyen can you clarify...?

thanks raymond

Ya, I started a thread myself almost a year ago trying to spark a fever in my fellow members to do just that. Pretty much fell on deaf ears for the most part :(

Thanks for the tip Minh...Although, I have read about that....

But, I still think that I will buy the package of 4 maxijets 1200 and the Dj power strip (wavemaker)

I figured that I will save a little on the maxijets and with shipping anyways...Instead of paying shipping for two seperate things...

-I'am still debating the modificaitons to the maxijets....It is kind of pricey if you think about it...But, more than likely I will end up buying it anyways....

-Darn where is a group buy when you need em...(actually I think I saw one on another thread but it was not in our area....

-But that' s fine...for now...I still have to research tediously....

I just hope that the Quiet One 4000 pumps that I have been trying to research on as well won't spit out it' s guts like the RIOS...So far I have not heard about these pumps doing that...I also am concerned with any flaws or failures on the pumps....

I don't have a kill a watt meter to test this out but someone else did test this once and found that the MJ mod was indeed using less wattage than the stock MJ.

Can't remember where I saw that though.

I would second the Chauvet as well. Better than going with that package deal. The CurrentSea unit is nothing more than a Chauvet with a different label on it.
