Tunze Turbelle 230.04A skimmer

Hello,
I have been using Tunze skimmers for some time and have nothing but good to say of them. However, the one Im using now is shocking me! I got shocked pretty bad last night when I stuck my hand in the tank, and figured out that the skimmer is putting the stray electric into the tank. I unplugged it and took off the pump.

The pump says: turbell 230.04A, ~115V/60Hz, 21 W 317USgal/h Hmax: 120"

Right now I have my older tunze skimmer running on the tank untill I can get this one fixed. What should I do? I have had this skimmer for a couple of years and it appears that it is no longer on the tunze website. I really need to either fix this or get a new skimmer fast because my old one isnt very big.

Thank you in advance,

Matt

The current equivalent is 230.04A is the pump, the 230/3 is the skimmer that uses that pump, they were made from mid 2000- mid 2004. The current pump that replaces the 230.04 is 9010.04. It has a new venturi nozzle but is otherwise virtually the same. You will get some microbubbles over what you had before due to more and finer bubbles but the skimming performance will increase about 20%.

If you wanted to, you could send the pump in for testing, just to be sure it is the source of the stray voltage as this would be pretty rare but it is likely an old pump and if it ran dry or seized at some point it wouldn't be impossible.

If you are happy with the skimmer you have and it is in good shape, the new pump would essentially make it equal to the current 9210 but a 9010 would be a bit stronger yet.

How can I send it in? Can I get it fixed? Is there any type of warrantee on these? Its only a few years old, and for the price I would think it would last a while. I cant think of anything out of the ordinary that would have damaged it.

Thanks,
Matt

It has a two year warranty, If the motor is emitting stray voltage it will not be repairable but most often in these cases I find the motor is not the source of the stray voltage but because it is grounded it is completing the circuit of another source of stray voltage or there is a hot/ground reversal or short in your wiring leading current in on the ground. I can test this and determine whether the motor is the source or not.
