Tunze Wavebox

Has anyone used a Tunze Wavebox? Is that what was on the new display tank at JoMars? They are pricey but are they worth it?

depends on your tank's dimentions... i get a nice 1/2 to 3/4 wave on my 300 gallon...

I'm only looking at a 75, which i hope turns into a 125 real soon. I want to eleminate all the m/jets and wavetimer to a simpler, but more efficent water mover that uses less electricity. Bill

I ran one on my 90 and its a very nice piece of equipment. You will still need some other type of water flow with the wavebox though. It will lift and suspend the detritus and you will then need something to sweep it to the skimmer, filter or whatever you are using. I used a tunze stream 6000 for this task.

Tunze equipment, especially water movement, is top notch!

yeah a wavebox does not replace powerheads... it compliments them.. not replace...

It is what we use on the 125 yes. However you will not eliminate all your powerheads with it IMO. You will still need a moderately powerful powerhead in conjunction with the wavebox to help get the detritus into suspension so it can be taken out by the filtration. On my 125 I will be running a Tunze wavebox and a Tunze 6100 Stream eventually with the 7095 controller plus the returns. Less pumps maximum flow that's what I want.

Matt, thanks, that answered my basic question. But is a wave box better (plus controller/ stream) than running two steams w/controller? I'm thinking yes.

Before i had the wavebox i ran two streams. After i purchased the wavebox i sold one of the streams so i have personally tried both options.

I would prefer the wavebox/stream combo over two streams.

I run the wave box with two 6100 streams on my 180. The wavebox is a completely different type of flow and can not even be compared to powerheads

I just installed a Wavebox into my 300G.

I also have 2 each 6100s. Bebo77 is right, the Wavebox is a nice compliment, but should be thought of as a replacement to powerheads.

I've heard of some folks complaining about clicking noises, etc from their Wavebox, but I've not experienced that.

I like the Wavebox because it creates a nice and RANDOM motion in the tank. A powerhead alone, no matter how it is controlled, still provides a stream of water in one direction. You can stop and start, increase and decrease the stream, but a powerhead still provides the same general push of water.

When you combine the Wavebox and streams, you get a nice random effect across the tank. It's like sloshing around a bowl of soup while stirring it with two spoons.
