Roger,

I want to upgrade my 9002 on my Nano Reefack to a 9005. I ended up with an SPS dominated 37 gallon and the guide says to not exceed 26 gallons for SPS tanks so I am thinking I am a little under powered. I will attach the skimmer to the Reefpack magnet and use one of the mounting brackets the skimmer comes with to mount the Nano Cleaner.

The 9002 works well, but I want to feed the corals often and because of its passive design, I don't think it will handle the load. The 9005 will probably be so effective at particulate and DOC removal I could probably nix the Nano Cleaner, although I like the surface skimming.

I have decent growth and my parameters are good for the time being, but the tank is young and lightly stocked. Do you think the 9002 will be able to handle the tank down the road when rapidly growing SPS fill the tank or should I just get the 9005 now?

Thanks in advance for your advice:)

That is a tough call. If you kept a fresh charge of chemi clean or the newer chemi clean elite or our nano chem in the nano cleaner and changed it monthly it might give you enough extra organic scavenging that you could get by with the 9002. The same could be said of just adding a small monthly water change to your routine. The 9005 would work very well but it adds a lot of bulk to the tank especially on one that size.

The 9005 is about the same size as the Reefpack 200 right? I would have to move the Nano Cleaner to the other side of the tank, not really ideal. The Reefpack 200 is unobtrusive in the tank and seems to be working well so I will stick with it. I am diligent about maintenance and run fresh chemical media. You seem to like the Chemi-pure products, I have never used them. They have been around for years, maybe I will give them a try. My $250 will be better spent on a 6055 and controller.

The 9005 is the same width and depth but it is quite a bit taller. I like Chemipure, I basically just think of it as high powered carbon, it seems to keep the water very clear and it has been around for a very long time so I trust it. It is also just very convenient to use since it is already in a bag and lasts longer than just plain carbon.

Smatter,
For the money.........just go with the 9010 skimmer, same size just more powerful. I had both, and I liked the 9010 much better. You know you would have wished you got the 9010 in the future !
What the heck.............why dont you just throw in a ReefPack 500. They fit pretty good in a 37. Mater of fact.........I know someone who has one in there 37 Oceanic.........Loves it ;-) !!! I think there are some pictures of it floating around!
Good luck
Later............Herbie

I already have an Osmolator and a Nano Reefpack. I will probably just keep it, seems to be working fine.
