Turn Over Rates For SPS

Hey guys, I would like to know the Turn Over Rate for your SPS tank.

If you would, state the turn over rate of your tank, the pumps used, whether or not you have a wave making device, and the size tank you have. And if you would like to post a picture of your tank/pumps, feel free to do so.

I have a Turn Over Rate of 72x, I am running a Mag 9.5 for the return for the Sump (850gph @ 3 feet) and two Seio 620's which only turn on during the Photo period of the MH (10 hours), I do not have a wave makeing device, and the size of my tank is 29 gallons.

BTW, my tank is fairly new (been up and running since May '05), and is just starting to get stocked.

110G with 2xtunze 6200s and a quiet one 4000 return pump. Total turnover around 100 to 105 times per hour.

some of my fellow reefers mouths dropped when i said i had a turnover of about 60x but it's good to see that i am not in the minority when it comes to adding lots of flow to a reef tank.

I have a 180 and do about 167 x turnover...but that does take the wavebox into account.
Without entering the wavebox into the equation it is about 84 x.

haha, same here, I am glad to hear that I don't have too high of a turn over rate. Some of my reefer friends that I know in person droped their jaws when I told them mine was 72x :D

Travis, what type of fish do you have in such a high current tank. Im setting up a 20g bb sps with 55x turnover. Am i limited in what type of fish to purchase? Any reccomendations?

Well sounds like I'm in the minority. I have a Barracuda Dart on my 180 reef with about 20x turnover (approx. 3600gph). It is plumbed as a return pump. The tank is new and at this time it is plenty of flow, but it may not be enough some day when the growth of SPS fills in.

Her's just a couple of shots. The first gives a view of the water surface to give some idea of the turbulence created by the four returns. I have minimal dead spots at this time in part to the rock work that is positioned to create large caverns under the entire structure.

You can keep all the regulares. They adjust to the flow and have no problem what so ever of swimming in the flow, infact, I think they have become more active since I added the Seio 620's. I know it's because there is more flow, but they seem much more healthier and stronger (2090 GPH in a 29g is one hell of a way to exercise :D).

cediss, nice tank

Turnover rate

How do you calculate the number of x's per hour your tank
turnover is. I have a 150g with total volume of 200g, Ampmaster
3000 return, reeflo barracuda on the closed loop.

TIA
Chuck

Count up how much flow you have (GPH) between all your pumps, then take the amount of water you have in the display, and deived it into the number of GPH you have.

I have 2090 GPH and a 29g Display, so I do this...

2090/29 = aproxamatly 72

How does the CPR overflow work for you travis? Iv got the mag 9.5 on my 30g cube with a CS100 CPR overflow(800gph). just wandering how yours is workin for ya.

i have ~55x in my 90g bb w/29g sump. two 620's, 820, about 700 through the sump, and the two penductors driven by a mak 4. i still want to get a few 1500's, like three and ditch the two 620's or place them under the rocks

2200 seio 2200
maxijet 295
mag 9.5 800

total 3495/29=120.51

i still want more flow and probally going to get a 6100 tunze and 1 1100 seio
