Turn Over Rates For SPS

okay .................Instead get a 6100 with a single controller. Therefore you will get an additional 3175gph plus you can control and even turn it down if you want . This way your not bummed you got a 6060 which isnt controlable at all . Again it would be better to have spent extra on the 6100 and contorller for the fact That I doubt you will be disappointed and like said it can be dialed back and is controllable for more random flow generation......

Clkwrk,

I guess you are right, I"ll save a little more and invest in this unit and controller to dial back at night.

I was going to just connect the 6160 dry to my reefkeeper and not worry about turning it off, but just run it constant.

I would save a lot of money and was thinking maybe I should run it full blast with my amount of live rock; in the back I most have many dead spots.

Any other advice considering you guys know what I have three 1200 maxi jets, Mag 1200 return?

Clkwrk, is the 6100 the same size as the 6160?

Would it be okay to bounce the flow off the glass at an angle so I can conceal the pump rather than have it go from left to right in open view?

MG

Yes the same size . Plus if you get the photo cell it will dial back to your low setting at night.

I have a 6160 in my 90 and wished it was a 6100 with controller.

Ok, so finally decided on a final flow plan for my 53.:D

Mag 12 - 900 gph (w/head loss)
Dart - 3600 gph (closed loop through OM 4 Way)

4500 gph

4500/53 = 84.91 turn overs per hour

Question...Im getting a 60 x 20 x 20 tank (100gs), I wont do close loop and will be using SEIO or that new ICECAP circulator.

Can I use the Dart as return with eductors? Its only 165watts at high flow
or does anyone have better efficient pump?

Dart would not be ideal on with eductors. Look for a pressure rated pump like a PanWorld or the like.

Clkwrk,

After reading some more on turn over rates, I'm going to go with the Tunze 6000 with controller and photocell...

That would give me an additional 1850 gph to my 2005 gph. With 3855/72 I would have 53.54x.

I just cannot see myself with the 6100 and the turn over rate at 72x. Remember I'm not a full SPS tank and I have a deep sand bed.

I know I could dial down but I also don't need the extra wattage that comes with this power (45 watts) compared to just (15 watts) for the 6000.

I've learned that its not just the power in the tank, it's about the motion of the ocean.

Thats cool that would work to . You wanted options so I gave you one . BTW my lps softie BB tank has 65x and everything loves it .

So I never said high turnover rates for sps only ;)

Clkwrk,

Do you have the 6100 connected to a tank my size?

I know you mentioned you have the 6060 in your 90 and wish you had gotten the 6100.

MG

I have a 6060, a tunze 7400 , a seio 1500 , a 1200 gph closed loop and my 7 return.

So yes I would have given up the seio and the 6060 for a 6100 instead. However I can have a 6100 inthere in about 5 mins.

In my 120 I have 3x6100's and a 3000 gph closed loop.

On my 12 Gallon JBJ I have around 655 GPH. That's about 54x, but I only have 200gph running through my sump I have a Maxi-jet MP 900 and 2 Mini-Jet 606's one is running at full capacity and the other runs about 35%. It seems to push all the polyps around on my SPS's but even with all that flow I still have designated low flow areas for my Lords'.

Can the Reeflo Tarpoon pull off an eductor/penductor

The Tarpoon is rated at 23' (9.1psi) comparable to an Iwaki 55RLT... A few eductors/penductors will work nicely...
