I was wondering if anyone recomends turning off the return pump at nite. I have a wavemaker that i would leave on with two maxijet 900's. My sump conatains a refugium and asm skimmer.

I would not turn off your return pump. Why turn off a life support system? By turning off you return pump, you won't get any skimming action, and, your DO (disolved oxygen) will drop pretty good. Not good.

Are you trying to save power? Maybe keep the tank a little quieter during the sleeping hours?

Agreed with the rest of the group. Turning off your return pump is a bad idea. I've heard of people who keep the skimmer on a timer though...

I used to turn of my return while feeding. My sump is under the house so turning off the skimmer was a pain, so I would just turn off the return to keep the food in the show tank. The problem is, sometimes the return didn't like to come back on. Now, I have a valve on the return line near the tank and a by pass so I can turn down the flow to the tank from the sump when I feed, if I feel like it :D . And, I may put the skimmer on some kind of remote switch.

the only reason for this, is that my sump is in my room so i'm trying to quiet the return pipe. i have it on a durso but its' still not quiet enough for me.

maybe my durso cap needs to be drilled out more, but i'm not sure if that will help the gurgling.

i put a tube from a maxi jet in the top of my drilled durso... let me adjust the air
