Yeah, I'm still alive. Not that any of you guys have bothered to check. You don't call... you don't write. FYI, us septuagenarians are know to simply "check out" at a moment's notice -- or no notice! LOL

Anyway, I'm still here, and it's time to update you all on my bucket projects.

Thanks to a lot of people in this club I have FINALLY got salt water in the 210 I bought from Mike (Motortrendz) well over a year ago! One factor in the long delay was that I took on the ambitious task of doing TWO 200gal tanks simultaneously. The other tank is a 60"x24"x36" custom size acrylic room divider. And the other (major) factor is that I'm totally inept at "DIY" stuff, whether it be plumbing, carpentry, or electic! So I've had to rely on my good friends for help.

The 210:

I'll one day soon post pics of the whole "build," but for now I just wanted to show you what it looks like right now. Well... I would really be remiss if I didn't at least mention that Justin (Turbovr3six) did a fantastic job in plumbing the 210.

There are 7 40lb bags of Carib Sea Special Reef Sand in the 210. I've flip-flopped in my mind many times about what I want to put in it, but have finally decided it will be an Atlantic Sea Grass + Mangrove Biotope. Sorry, but no SPS. Some soft corals, but mainly a planted tank, and the animals that inhabit that zone (e.g., my beloved Seahorses!). The decor in the room divider will be "outside the box!" You'll just have to wait and see.

First time accessing you'll be asked to install a Panasonic active-x control -- just takes a few seconds and you need it for the live feed.

The webcam will be up for only a limited time -- like perhaps a week. This is only because I can't handle the entire known universe tuned in at once. Any NYRC member wishing continuous access to the cam please e-mail me for an alternative ID and PW.

Congrats to you George!! I'm looking forward to seeing these puppies full. Which ever way you decide to go, I know it will be done tastefully. Great sandbed to start with buddy. Your on your way!! Whoo Hooo!!!!!

thats going to be one large horse stable... I can't even imagine what "out of the box" means for the wall divider.

Hey George where did you get the Carib Sea Special Reef Sand?

Got the first 5 bags from Tito (Gotham Aquatics). Support our member/vendors whenever possible. Plus, Tito will give you the best price.

But after I put in the five bags and realized it wasn't enough, I was in a hurry for more and got one bag at Aquarium Village and another at Pets Warehouse.

Call around, Dave. I would think most LFS that carry Carib Sea would have it.

Update

Update

Custom cabinet skin is being installed today on the steel stand under the acrylic room divider. See original post for pic. The cabinetmaker will be here around 9:00 or 9:30am. I will move the web cam to view that tank around that time, too. Tune in during the day if you get a chance to see the work in progress.

Also, both tanks now have salt water in them. Still working on decor. Stuff has been ordered. Not the least of which are two pairs of Hippocampus ingens (Pacific Coast Seahorses, that get up to 12"). They are captive bred and will be of saleable size by April or May, so nowhere near their full size. I'm wondering how long it will take for them to reach 12"! I hope it's not *years*!

Cabinet is done and beautiful! Webcam is still on it, but I'll post some stills later tonight -- I'm on my way out the door right now. TTYL

Hope my wife doesn't get sick of appearing on the cam and cover it! LOL

Update???

Hey, Noel... sorry to say that the trim work you did on the posts became a casualty of the new cabinetry.

Noel had a major hand in getting this tank in place -- one of the posts had to be moved a foot, and he installed the light fixture on the living room side.

And then it sat for months... then it was plumbed... and now we have a beautiful cabinet around the steel stand, and it was only logical to cover the posts with the same maple wood.
