Does UV help at all in reducing counts?

Yes, however, whether it makes any practical difference to your fish is less clear. I run one, but it will not eradicate ich from your tank. You will have to remove all surviving fish and treat them as suggested while leaving your tank fish less for at least 72 days. Even a fish that does not die will likely be carrying the bug so any subsequent additions, even if run through QT, will be vulnerable.

IMO never add an ich-magnet like a Hippo without proper QT.

I will be adding a QT, although my wife is now regretting my entry back into the hobby!

I plan on the QT to be around 30g or so. I hope I have some fish left by the time I get it set up.

I feel for ya.

Typically fish with thick mucous coats (like your wrasses) are able to survive longer with Ich in the tank. Same goes for the clown & your gobies. On the flip side, your YT & CB angel are most at risk.

Don't know if I already mentioned this but... pickup some Selcon, Zoecon, and/or Vita-chem, and start soaking those in the fish food. Even Omega-3 fish oil may help to give their immune systems enough of a boost to survive until you get the QT up & running. Just don't get lulled into complacency, and look at this as a permanent fix to the problem.

That's an old reefkeeping myth that just won't go away. Garlic *may* help stimulate appetite, but it won't help with disease control. In fact, there are studies that show health problems with long-term feeding of garlic to marine fish. Save your time and money for treatments that actually work.

I have seen great improvements since I started using garlic in feedings.

My goby and coral beauty were showing major signs of ich. The goby was covered in white. Each feeding the numbers diminished and now all fish look clean.

I understand that my tank is still infested with ich.
I have a 40 watt UV sterilizer arriving this week to assist in reducing counts.

Here are the current survivors:
Coral Beauty
Lubbocks wrasse
Neon goby
Clown
2 firefish

The goal is to keep them alive until I can catch them and transfer them to a QT.

I am in the process of transferring the fish to a QT tank this week that my local suppliers can manage until they are better.

I am pleasantly surprised at the improvement with feeding garlic. I know many people have written that it does not cure ich but it has definitely extended the life of my fish to a point allowing me to properly treat them.

I will keep the DT fish free for about 80 days. With the addition of the UV and no fish, I am hopeful that my ich will be gone. Although I heard yesterday that it will always be in the tank encapsulated waiting for a stressed fish to attack.

Any truth to that?
