Two pairs of clowns in my new tank??

I have two established pairs...they are still both on the small end, but both are definitely paired.

The larger more aggressive clarkiis were added second...that is the way I would have done it with any fish.

So far so good...probably been a month or two this way...clarks are growing fast.

Ill bow out at this point and try to remember to come back once the anemone is in tank and established.

I'm sure you know this, but "paired" and "spawning" are very different things with clowns. Once they start laying eggs, the aggression will get worse.

I am going to float the ORA's in with the anemone on the side of the tank where I want the nem to settle... (I know this is a long shot.)

Do you mean that you're going to put a pair of fish that you already have in your tank into the acclimation bag with a new anemone in the hopes of forcing them to accept the nem? I would not do this. Aside from worrying about the water quality in the anemone bag, forcing your clowns into a confined space with an anemone that they're not acclimated to could be very bad news for the fish.

Yes, but it never hurts to clarify.

No, this is not what I mean at all. You have probably seen anemones floating around in small baskets or containers at LFS's...I am making my own floating container, putting the anemone in it, and then adding the clowns to that container. Whether or not people like this, it is the route I am going. The anemone will be very small, and therefore lower risk. My brother works for Quality Marine, and this is how they get a lot of tank raised clowns to host. Says it is more than 90% successful.

As a technique to get the tank raised to host what you suggest is a sound principle.

I have read many times that clowns need to expose themselves to the anemone over and over to get acclimated and keep from getting stung. This has been written in many texts but it is contrary to what i see in the tank. I have many times added a nem to a tank with clowns that have not seen a nem for over a year and the clowns dive right in. Someday it will be proven that the concept of acclimation to the nem is either flawed in some way or completely wrong.

My brother says that when he sees them doing it at QM that one of the two usually immediately goes into the anemone. So +1 to your observations in that regard.

The way I see it is that the sting is fairly mild, and a healthy fish, with a proper slime coat, (especially from a smaller nem) should probably be able to take this damage.

We will see...if I kill my fish I will feel bad and those of you who doubt this method may have been proven correct in my case.

Sorry man, but what you guys are advising or attempting to do comes w/ drawbacks very often.
Do what you wish w/ your own tanks/fish/nems, but to anyone else reading I strongly advise not following in your footsteps, just not sound advice.

I haven't needed to, because I have had clowns that took a host pretty quickly, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen posts where people forced or confined clowns and nems where the clowns got stung and in many cases eaten by that very nem.

Could you post links to a couple of these so that we can learn from those situations?

If that is not convenient, okay...but I would really like to see this.

As said, it works successfully incessantly at QM...I take the odds they gave me over the odds of it not working.
