Two Part CA/ALK ingredients in Bay Area

Thanks tonggao and Nukeproof. I can actually walk to the store you mention.

Nukeproof, is that Tradewind Spa?

The shiping from mainstreet is 43$ to my zip. Thats for 50 Ibs. and the product costs 13.99. So $57 for 50 Pounds

16.99 for 8Ibs, so that's like $106 for 50Ibs.

Not such a good deal but I can get it now!

Well you get cheaper prices in bulk, the Leslie link a few messages above shows 45 pounds for about $44, not to mention it's more concentrated so you'll have to use less.

The store is call Leslie's Swimming Pool Supply. I use 2 cups instead of 2 1/2 cups. They have it in a few sizes.

That answered my next question.

Thanks.

By the way, Leslie also sells different sized soda ash. I am not sure why it is called ash, but guess it was heated to get rid of water and co2 in it. If this is true, it will be perfect to make 2 parts, and save you the heating part of preparing it.

I decided to buy two 32 cup portions each of the calcium chloride and magnesium chloride from this site rather than bother setting up my calcium reactor again. Along with my kalkwasser reactor, this should have me set up for quite awhile. They are making quite a profit considering a 50-pound bag of each can be found for under $20 in iced over areas of the country, but I don't have the time or energy to find a huge bag locally (probably impossible) or bring home boxes of deicer with me when I visit my in-laws in Massachusetts.

even if you got the product for free, after all the bills are paid you would be surprised how little profit there is on a product you sell for $11.99 : )

thanks for supporting our site which helps us get the word out on this cheap alternative to all the commercial products : )

be careful those recipes are for dowflake and arm & hammer baking soda, if you use other alternatives (such as the Leslie's) you'll have to modify, simply because the leslies has more calcium chloride.

you should also do the best you can to test it for heavy metals and ammonia. the only brand that is known to be safe right now is the dow flake . I know people have tested many of of the more commonly found brands at HD and they were no good. Using other brands than dow can be a shot in the dark and have accumlative negative effects over time. It may very well be fine to use but you should be aware of the risks.

when in doubt ask randy : )
