ive used seachem in the past with no issues, but need to order more two part.

anyone think i should switch to another brand? if so, which one is good?

thanks

making you own is the cheapest option, not the best. Bulk Reef Supply is priced low and they use pharmaceutical grade products.

ESV B-Ionic is my first choice and second choice is BRS 2 Part.

I was using ESV B-Ionic up until I discovered BRS and I never looked back.

thanks for everyone's suggestions.

everyone agree that esv is the best? what makes it the best? brs a close second?

i know making it yourself is cheapest, but how does the quality compare? my tank is only 10 gallons right now, so cost shouldn't be too bad

Arm and Hammer for Alk, BRS for Calcium Chloride and Mag Sulfate + Chloride.

+1

I get the A&H baking soda from Costco in 13lb bags.

I've used epsom salts for mag supplement before but it's only mag sulfate and long term can lead to sulfate build up. The mix of mag sulfate and mag chloride corrects that. Plus the mag chloride is effective against bryposis when mag levels are held higher.

Does anyone use epsom salt for mag?

I still use epson salt to increase the magnesium on a freshly mix salt.

To me it's the consistent concentration of the ESV, but with me adding over 100 ml of each part on a daily basis ESV just isnt as cost effective compare to BRS 2 Part.

In your case for a 10 gallon system you should be just fine.

here is a link to my system, I've been using BRS for almost 1 1/2 year. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1881861

I switched from ESV to BRS over a year ago and noticed no difference in quality, worth the switch in my opinion to save $$$$.

BRS here as well, but i might add that with things like ESV B-Ionic, there are some trace elements in there as well, but nothing that cant be supplemented

When you buy the Half Gallon 3.5 Pounds Bulk Calcium Chloride, how many gallons does that make, if you were to make it equal to the concentration of the b-ionic?

I use B-Ionic by ESV however, in my 20 gallon I do 4 gallon water changes once a week using IO Reef Crystals which replenishes my tank with plenty of Ca and Alk. This means that I only begin adding the 2 part after day 3 or so. Ultimately it will be lower cost to do frequent water changes than to supplement.

b-ionic is what i use. never used BRS so I cant say. Bionic works good on my 14g, raises my alk and calc. evenly and consistently.
