Two types of Anthias in a 180

I am planning on getting 10 Lyretail Anthias and adding all that make it through the QT to my 180. And I was wondering how an additional 3 Dispar Anthias would do with them? They would all be in the 65 gal QT together.

I suppose every case is different, but I figured I would get a little feedback on it.

Or should I just stick to the Lyretails and then go with a couple of fairy or flasher wrasses of some sort? Such as a Labout's, Scott's or Carpenter's.

Or to derail this thread, we could talk about the likelyhood of getting a compatable pair of wrasses from a random order of two online.

To me it seems like the lyretails might pick on the dispars too much. If it were me, I'd pass on the lyretails & get the smaller dispars. If the dispars stopped sticking together in a nice cohesive group, at that point I'd add just one larger more aggressive anthias like a lyretail who would be inclined to boss them around which would tend to keep them "at school" Also with dispars 2 males is less likely to cause serious trouble.
Just my $.02

If you want the lyretails to hang together, you have to buy a tiger shark, I believe to intimidate them  But seriously, I think I read that high & random flow has an effect on keeping the lyretails hanging together. I know someone will correct me if that's wrong

I don't know much about pumps, etc. but it sounds like your tank has very nice flow.

dispars are a little timid...you may consider trying a trio of bartlett's with your lyretail...the bimacs seem to do fine as well (though $$$)

fairy wrasses are another option. So many hard choices lol ;)

The bimacs are sweet, but did not make the cut because of the $$$. I think I will stick with the Lyretails and wrasses.

Steve,

I continue to have success with 2 male and 5 female square backs and 1 male and 3 female dispars. I think your choice is fine I have had lyretails and had great luck with them. Good luck. You will enjoy the school.
