Type of sand for a Stingray tank

I have a friend setting up a 180 gallon stingray tank. He is looking to put around 300 lbs of sand and was wondering if there was a home depot sand he could use instead of spending $20+ per bag at the pet store. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Dan.

Did the stingray tank ever go anywhere

I know he broke the tank down a long time ago. Not really sure how the whole stingray experience worked out though.

I have always wanted a stingray aggressive type tank they seem cool

They are cool! Especially when hand feeding

I can tell you that 180g is not big enough for a ray. We had one in our 190g and it outgrew it pretty quickly. They are neat animals though.
