For now call the coral the 'Rafael Monti', until Rafael comes up with a name.

Note - There is a second near exact copy that another reeefer has. I am currently waiting to see that fragment in person. Information a fragment are coming through a third party. Also, there still is a slime chance the real Leng Sy linneage may be established, but no images have been sent to me as of yet.

Concerning the Echinopora lamellosa (Blue Chalice) - It is a low light coral. Too much light makes it brown or tan.

One of these corals is on its way to me right now in fragment form, assuming that the northeast power outage does not screwup Federal Express delivery schedule.

There must be a curse on this type of coral. It seems when things start looking good and we think we my have another great find, something tries to put a stop to it. Good luck with the shipment.

Wow, that is very pretty. I hope this coral gets distributed a little more and reincarnates the infamous "Leng Sy" piece that has drawn the attention of so many people and even gotten some into the hobby.
That my friends, is a very powerful coral.

I traded with Mike Paletta earlier in the year and he does in fact state he has/had the Leng Sy coral. Mine is now just starting to grow out.

In my opinion Carlos(pucci)has as beatiful a Monti as any green with purple edges and any color pollyps.

Long time no talk! Regarding the Blue Chalice. I have it about 20 inches from my 400W PFO HQI Radium and it has taken on a very pale blue almost gray morph. Is this the target color or can we get this thing bluer if we place it lower?

My E. Lamellosa is near the bottom of my 24" deep tank, off in a corner lit by 4 x VHO's. It looks better and is growing faster than it ever did under halides.

I'm happy to see you guys are enjoying my purple rim monti. I thought this would be a good time to jump in here and give you some history of it.

I obtained the coral in the summer of 2000. It was a 2ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ x 3ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ frag. It was brown with no hint of the purple rim. It was actually given to me by a friend that works at a LFS. He did tell me that it was supposed to be green with purple rim. I was skeptical after inspecting it, but why look a gift horse in the mouth I thought. A few months later it had turned a dip fluorescent green with a bright pink rim and the polyps where a fluorescent light mint green. The picture below is of that frag after it had grown some and colored up under VHO bulbs only. It was taken on 8/23/2000. I grow most of it under VHO 50/50 actinic and white. The frag that Steve is getting, is from a juvenile mother colony that has been under 20k bulbs for a few months. I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t think it was finished coloring up under this new bulb though. Before the 20k bulbs, that mother colony had been under 10k bulbs(very old 10ks to be fair) and the color was not as nice.

I do distribute this coral in my local area on a regular basis. I hope the spell gets broken with this delivery.

The Xenia dose not burn that cap. Not that it is touching it, because the Xenia is in the foreground a few inches away from it. I have not seen Xenia burn any of my SPS.

And here it is a few years later. Actually this picture show two mother colonies that I was growing out. One is in the middle and the other is way in the back. There is a another morph (I named it Morph III since I also have a Morph II) of this coral Green/pink rim in the middle back right past the orange cap but it is not the same animal. That's why I have been naming them Morph I, II and III.

By the way. Can anyone show me how to embedd the images in the text response?

what color are the polyps on your piece? to me it looks as if they're the same color as the body.

Those pictures are not macro shots so you can't discern the polyps. The best sample that I have with me is an old shot under T5s 65k bulbs. The coral actually looks brown under this lighting but you can see the polyps well if you can get past the over all ugly brown. I will try to get an updated close up when I get back home and post it next week.
