i have seen a few puprple rim green caps with white polyps, I have two varieties but what makes that one so special is the tuberculae/nodules on the interior.

Will the Real Leng Sy cap please stand up?

Yeah, that's the Leng Sy Ecosystem cap in their ads which burned a spot in my brain. I would love to see a recent picture of this puppy in someone's system. The color and structure of this sps are unforgettable. If this is like other caps, it should be a fast grower, and with the technology and knowledge reefkeepers have today, we should get this wondrous specimen in a lot more tanks.

I'm getting the frag from Carlos (Pucci). He did email me a picture, but, I am not able to copy and post it on here for some reason (it hasn't saved to my computer). Carlos said he tries to frag it once a month. I do trust Carlos, and I wouldn't expect him to be selling a fake.

if hes so worried about blowing his cover, post the pic for him.
i want to see the "extreme" reef.
He's not worried about blowing his cover, I was just cautious not to give his email out (I know some people don't like to give their email out).

Here's a quick picture I found of the PE I'm talking about:

It was bigger in the picture he gave me via email, but this was the best I could find of his. If it's a fake, I'll be quite suprized.

Hello gang,

Here are some facts based on my experience with this coral between 1996 and 1997. No one who got fragsments of this coral through me, still has a living piece of it. I lost my last fragment of it in 1997. Bill Schroer at Piece of the Reef never had this coral. The piece that some claim to have gotten from Piece of the Reef was a different Montipora. Tracy Gray still has fragments of that one. So I lost my last frag of this Leng Sy Coral due to bright light bleaching way back in 1997. I believe that was before Tracy Gray and Pucci/Carlos even had stony reefs.

There is someone who claims to know someone else who has a living colony grown from a fragment that Leng Sy distributed himself back in 1996. However, that person has never sent me an image of it even though I have asked to see the image. Its still possible that its a true linneage but it has not been verified. The only one who could truelly verify that linneage would be Leng Sy.

BTW - I get about 2 people a month claiming to have this coral. Now it is very possible that we are seeing newer imported morphs that are similar or identicial to the original coral. The original coral had fluorscent green polyps and it had extensive nodule growths. Polyps were fluorescent green as viewed in person. The image that I have of it on my web site was not bright enough to determine that. I recently recieved an image of a coral that looks the closest to the original then I have ever seen. That reefer is sending me a fragment of it (in trade) this week. I will take a good look at it and see how close it really is. WIll also examine photos on this thread of Montiporas that people post. At any rate, there are some truelly awesome Montipora out there nowadays, but stony reefers also need to beware of the Montipora eating Nudibranch's.

I took a look at the pictures on this thread and none are the true Leng Sy, except for the old school image of the real deal obviously. The other corals are similar but not exact. The purple edge on the Leng Sy was 1 inch wide top and bottom. Also the corals in the images on this thread lack extensive nodule growth (vetrical branch-like growths). Nice corals none the less.

steve - thanks for clearing up some of the murk. i wish that this coral was still around...truely and amazing piece. that was probably the FIRST coral that made me really look at SPS...and now look :D thanks for the pics while you had it...and it is a sad day to know it is gone :(

Lunch Bucket,

Leng Sy did not like distributing very many of his stony corals back then. He may of had the first all orange capricornis also. I literally had the keys to his shop back then, but he took them away because I sold fragments of his orange montipora capricornis (circa 1996) to Bill Schroer at Piece of the Reef.

Ok...maybe i was looking at the wrong coral? maybe Pm or something..i think i spend to much time BS with them two..but Steve can you tell us what color are the POlyps...!!!!

i always thought the polyps were yellow..although i could be wrong. :smokin:
thanks steve for clarifying the color of this coral.
i wonder if leng sy frequents this board?

Hey Steve Tyree,

Where was the cap in the Leng Sy's tank? From the photo it appears to be right under the halide light. What kind of light and flow would you say it received? Quantify and Qualify to the best of your ability if you please. Thanks
