Hey Steve - what do you think of this one?

I hope to see the mother colony tomorrow. I have two frags coming from it. I will bring a camera and hopefully get a better pic.

Hey Raphael,

I just purchased a good sized "tank raised" frag of a green with wide purple rim cap from my LFS. I was told that it came from your system. It turned brown/tan under their lighting, but I can still see a wide pinkish rim.

I am sure it is not the original Morph of the "Raphael LE PE" but perhaps it is a frag of another morph (II or II) of the previously posted corals. Can you verify? Frag was purchased in Deerfield.

I have it pretty low in the tank directly under a 20k radium, hopefully it will regain its coloration under better conditions :)

Bocaswim,

I do supply MLD(if this is where you got it from) up in Deerfield with different morphs of Montiporas along with other SPS corals. If you just got it within the last week or two then I can confirm that it is the same coral that we are discussing in the thread and I sent to Steve. It is not one of my other color morphs. I have not given them any of the others recently.

As you stated, it had lost color(understatement). I was there about a week ago and that frag, along with a red montipora cap. frag which had been in the 55 gal reef that is in the front of the store were moved to their main coral system. The 55 gal reef was torn down because everything was starting to go down hill. You can probably still distinguish the difference in the polypââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s color and the surrounding tissue but maybe not (the corals where not happy in that system). They did begin to pickup some color after they moved them to their main coral system, I noticed it specially in the red cap. This shows how bad that 55 gal system was doing since typically after a week or two the corals that I deliver loose a significant amount of color in the main coral system and here they where gaining color after they moved them. I donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t think that the MH bulbs or fluorescents have ever been replaced in that system.

All of the frags of that coral are grown under VHO half white and half actinics. I prefer the color under that combination. I have also placed it under 10k MH and got really nice coloration too, but different. Under VHO the purple is more towards the red/pink. Under 10ks itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s more a purple blue.

Hope this helps. I still would like to take you up on your invitation from a while back to visit you and your system. So little timeââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦

Rafael

What a lucky find!!

What a lucky find!!

Rafael,

Yes I did purchase the piece at MLD this past weekend. It was definately stressed but caps generally do well in my system. The red cap was either sold or DOA. I can see a slight difference in the polyp coloration against the coral tissue and what was once a wide pink edge is clearly visible. This is a nice large frag and has several upward nodules growing in addition to the scrolling pattern. I was hoping to get a pic up, but will have to wait til the lights come on.

Please feel free to email me directly if you are ever headed up this way I would love for you to come by and visit my system. Bocaswim748@aol.com

Off topic: I have a healthy regal that needs a home.

New picture

(I goofed). I hit 'New Thread' instead of 'Post Reply' so this became a new post called "New Picture". Hopefully I can drive this back in here again. Sorry, to those that responded under the other thread.

Hi Gang,

I have received so many questions on the comparison of Leng Sy's coral and mine that I put together a quick picture that I hope will show the likeness of the two corals.

I took the close up picture that Steve Posted of the Leng Sy cap and one of my best close up pictures of my coral that had been growing under PC bulbs for a few months and composed the two so that you can see them close to each other. The results even surprised me I must admit.

I did not retouch color or adjust for brightness. Had I done that they would blend even better since the Leng Sy cap picture is brighter than my picture.

So Many to Choose From

So Many to Choose From

They are all so pretty - Had to throw one more in.

Polyps are white when I am not handling the coral for the photos.

Kind of hard to get see the depth and detail on the coral, because the coral has alot of depth to it. This second photo is looking down the side of the coral, It is now developing pillars coming out of the center of the coral.

Bonsai, I think I bought a frag of that off of ebay a couple weeks ago. I think the person who fragged it is the person who runs reef-tek, because his personal email address promoted the site. Anyway, it broke during shipment and I'm hoping to get lucky and they both grow. :D

I also bought a couple other really nice caps from him. The frags were kind of small, but nice nonetheless.

dang those are sweet...what frag people do you get stuff from on ebay or do you trust on ebay? (point me to some auctions please :D )

thanks

LB, I just checked and the guy's name is seareef, but I could swear it was something different a couple weeks ago. Anyway, here is a link to the auction - I got this auction, and another auction with two other Caps. The frags are small, but doing ok.

One cap was shattered and I got two Suharsonios that both didn't make it due to poor packaging but he said he'd make good next time I'm in CA.

OK, found them both ...

Here's a picture of the frag I got from Raphael about 2 months ago. I had it pretty low in the tank until recently. It is starting t get it's color back. The polyps are a really neon light green, in contrast with the base color of the coral. The other corals I got from him are doing great.

For what it's worth, I got a frag from that colony that is photoed in this thread (about three months ago). The frag was about the size of a quarter - here is what it looks like now.

I have 7 other montiporas in the same tank, including 4 M. capricornis, and none of them grow like this - it is growing in a cone shape and is very bumpy.

Mike,

The coral has definitly lost a lot of color, except for the polyps though.

What lights do you have it under and how deep down where you holding her?
Where you trying to acclimating her at the deeper lower light?

Here is a picture of the same frag on my last post, where I composed the Leng Sy frag with it. Only it is four months older now. Back then(8/31/03) it was 1 1/2 by almost 2 inches. It is now 3 by 4 inches.
