tyree most wanted capricornis

Well it appears that the original Leng Sy was lost. I have seen no substantial evidence that anyone kept it going for more then a year. So in this case the linneage issue is a moot point. Now if someone is falsely claiming to have the correct linneage when they dont, that is another issue and one that should be dealt with, since there are collectors out there who have been paying $200 or more for the 'real Leng Sy'. I have sold no such corals no have ever claimed to have had the 'real Leng Sy', since 1996. It may turn out that the linneage can be established, but it has not been established as of yet IMHO. If you are not into the linneage issue, no big deal. There are however reef collectors who are.

sberman,

This is what Steve has concluded at this point. If he is correct then there are no known Leng Sy corals that have been traced directly from the original colony.

I don't know if you are referring to Dustin's or mine but as far as mine it produces vefy pronouced ridges. Here is a picture of ridges that are around 2 inches, which I would guess from the pictures of the Leng Sy are as big and maybe bigger. The polyps on mine are green as well. Under certain lights they will turn more a white color. This picture is a bit faded so does not show the green color in the polyps as much.

It cups as well. You can see the picture above and on the prior page (Top) even though that one is a small frag, it is starting to show the cup forming.

Here is a picture of one of my frags in someone elses tank.
Although his had lost the overall green outside of the polyps (during shipping or due to different lighting conditions) it shows the green polyps very well.

fraguy also the purple ridge should almost cover the underneath i guess at this poing i would say the leng sy is nice but there are so many other nice caps who really cares if it looks good in your tank and you are happy with it that is all that matters at least that is how i am starting to feel these days trying to prove and not prove what is what is a pain time to enjoy sit back and relax and enjoy my tank just start calling them caps and acros no more fancy names

I agree with you even the 'scientific expert' will not give you a guaranteed id when it comes to acros and montis. Even after going through skeletal analysis. The best they can do is give you a high probability that it is this or that.

The only reason I see some value in this type of discussions is when people that consider themselfs "collectors" are looking at a coral that is labeled "xxx" and it cost "$$$", that we be able to verify that it is in fact "xxx".

There have been many questions about corals that where claimed to be this or that and now we are questioning those claims in threads like this one.

Just to be clear if it is not already. My PE is NOT from Leng Sy. I got it from a LFS who picked it up from a wholesaler thought to have gotten it from a Bali shipment.

once again the leng sy does not have white poloyps and the nods go way up also this coral forms cups instead of plates
I have to desagree! and the proof is in the pics I posted the previous page, same coral, diferent formation thru out the years.
Nothing personal Scott.
So what you are saying is that if the coral does not form a cup is not the same coral?
coral forms cups
OK! here's the cup formation.

Under the 20K? or under 10K? How is it possible to tell the color of the polyps under different lighting?

I'll give you another one!
My Purple rim, produces a RED ora right above the purple edge.
And that's no joke.

many of my purple pigmented corals produce a red aura when viewed at the right angle. My guess it is an optical illusion when viewing from the side and through the glass. just my .02

You guys have been smoking something :smokin: J/K :D

carlos i woulod not disagree with u and any cap with a purple edge will get that red ora u are talking about it has to do with the way the light hits it on trading corals i think i am done doing that cant afford to have the nudies in the tank again no offence to anyone to many people have them now so i am just being careful i am not even trading acros now dont want the red bugs back either

Ok guys, humour me:D

How much would you charge me to send a frag of the Steve Tyree purple rimmed clone to London?

PM me with a quote. EVERYTHING has a price;)

Reaper,

You still have not had any luck obtaining it in your neck of the woods?
Are you not seeing any Montis in your area or is it just this morph that is hard to find?

I would love to help you out, but it's just too much red tape to go through.

Rafael

FragGuy,

I just can't find the green monti with a purple rim, with the special growth nodules in the interior :( I want it to be the centre piece in my current 65g tank (which is currently cycling) :)

I understand what you mean by red tape. You need an exporters permit ($5 per species) to send it to London and I need a CITES certificate to recieve it.

What I want to know is how much $ would it take to get a reefer to go through the red tape?

Everything has a price, I love that coral! It's one of the main reasons I got into SPS. I could literally devote my display tank to this awesome SPS :D

I'm surprised I haven't got a flood of PM's yet.

Edit, the same offer goes for a solid blue plating montipora;)

dont forget that the monti could grow completly different than the tyree depending on your lighting, but main your current would be the most important parameter to get the same otherwise it will grow different.

reaper it would probaly be easier for u to fly here get it and take it back with you that way you could see what you are getting
