Tyree Setosa Blue Tips

Hi

I have a large colony of orange Setosa. I have put it under 20k MH Radium Bulbs and the new growth seems to have bluish tips. Has anyone ever heard of this

Thanks

I would LOVE to have a frag of orange setosa, it must be beautiful. I have heard of that coloration so it does not seem unusual.

Setosa is NOT a slow grower. Once your frag gets about golf ball size or slightley larger....it will out grow most acroporas.

Mine is just now after a couple months showing some signs of growth on the frag plug. Even though it's very low in my tank, it started to fade from low nutrients (new tank) and light acclimation to 400 watt Radiums.

It's just now getting some nice color back, but appears more pink than orange.

I would love to see pictures of those blue tips! I haven't seen that before.

pinkish setosa is not uncommon. based on where it is the tank/lighting it can shift colors -- least this has been my experience -- as mentioned once it settles in, it is a fast grower.

comparable to spongodes in growth? if so why is this not a ten/twenty dollar coral frag? or is demand still out stripping supply? i had to pay 30 myself. thought it was fair. spongodes i would give away. tis a weed.

i only recently aquired it and still have a lot to learn about growing my example out but around here it is uncommon still.

i would say, depends on where you live. where i am it is $20 for a nice sized frag at the LFS's around me.

I normall give frags away.

Wow. I really like that. I hope mine starts to do that soon. Right now it's about the size of a quarter but the frag plug is encrusting mosre ever couple of days.

Thanks for posting.

I think what is happening is the setosa has developed white tips (which is normal) and these white tips are reflecting a blue color from the 20k radium. Put something white in the tank- I bet it will have a blue color once under the lights.
