In numerous places in my sand there is some reddish alge growing. Some spots it get kinda stringy. This stuff look real nasty. Any ideas as to what this is and how I can get rid of it?

sounds like cynaobacteria. pretty common for a new tank. how much flow do you guys have? direct a ph at the cynao and reduce your feedings. that will help. also syphon out by hand as much as you can. it will go away.

Mr. Nudibranch-
I have my light on a timer with a 12hr photo period. What would you suggest?

Skippy2-
I tried to syphon it out but the suction just lifted it off of the sand but neversucked it all the way down into the buckett. I also have cut my feedings in half. I don't have much in there anyway.

po4, I believe, stands for phosphates. Phosphates come from food we feed the tank. Some foods, especially gel bound food (frozen) contains lots of phosphates. That's why I suggested to lower the food going in your tank.
