Ugly tank stage!!

Well..I guess I can call it success! My tank is effectively going through its ugly stages. Below is a pic of the original dry rock getting covered in red-ish stuff and green hair algae, which is also growing in the glass at the back of the tank.
What is the red stuff? Diatoms? Coraline?

Anything I should be doing at this time to avoid letting get out of hand other than enjoy it? Some livestock probably?

Thanks ÷

You could get a cleanup crew to help with the algae bloom

I have one:

- Nerites
- Ceriths
- Nassarius
- 1 emerald crab
- 1 peppermint shrimp

anything else you recommend?

My tank fish population now consists on 2 clowns, 2 chromis and 2 tangs doming up soon from QT

Is that your current tank in your signature?

Urchins are pretty awesome at cleaning up algae. Other than that, the best way of keeping it in check is not letting nutrients get out of hand. Keep good nutrient export going, and don't over stock the tank.

I think that red stuff is cyanobacteria. I had it when I first started out. It went away on its own after a few weeks for me.

Yes, my tank is the one in the signature. It is a 72G DT and 90G total. I was looking now at some urchins, they seem pretty cool.

I may give a try to a couple of tuxedo, need to find out if the LFS has them.

one turbo snail would take care of that algae. They are algae eating machines. Down side is they are also bulldozers for frags if they aren't attached well
