Ultimate 20G Setup Journal - Pic Intense

Hi all, sorry for the lag AGAIN! I've been promoted at work, which is great, but I've been covered up lately and haven't had much free time to give to the tank.

The dual nanostreams are still working great. It does take some tweaking to get them honed in and avoid a sandstorm, but it's well worth the effort. I have noticed added evap since they've been installed. I guess the added surface agitation is the culprit. I'm going to have to add an auto top-off. I'm adding around 2 gallons of top off water a day to keep up.

Hero, actually, the return from the sump is a Mag 9. Yes, there's crazy flow going on.

Dano, the overflow is working great. No issues thus far. I still have to dial in the overflow valve from time to time. I wouldn't change it for the world. I'm having trouble getting pics uploaded, so you'll have to wait a bit for some new images.

Tigga, looking good! I don't think the stain looks bad. Nice job. I'm going to tag along and see how it goes.

Finless, thanks for the recognition. I really like your setup. Have you started a thread?

EWC, thanks for the kind words. Have any pics of your setup?

WOWOW great job DSpark, seriously one day im going to make a tank almost like this, also ill add some of my modifications : ) Your setup is awesome, clean, your aquascaping is very cool, and its....awesome, go(d)sh i hate you... ; ) naw jk. Sorry if i didnt catch it but, what is your lighting? And what is the purpose of those onions on your overflow box? How hard was it to do all that wiring? Again that tank is really coool, cant wait to see it stocked.

The lighting is a 14K 150W Metal Halide housed in a PFO pendant. It's being driven by an IceCap ballast. I'm not sure what you mean by the onions. Are you maybe talking about the Tunze NanoStreams?

OH! I made those from standard plumbing parts from Lowes. It was a little difficult to find a good o-ring though.

just a quick thought, maybe i missed it. You mentioned 2 gallons per day for topoff, how long is the light on and what kind of temps are you getting? is the one fan enough? thanks

Nano, what scares me is that I'm not running my light at all right now since there isn't anything in the tank yet. I think I'm going to install an auto top-off before I can "go live". Otherwise I won't be able to leave the tank for more than 24 hours or risk my pump running dry. I'll have to build a cabinet to hold the top off water container, which is going to slow the process even more!!!

:( :( :(

I can't remember if you said you had a chiller I am going to have to get one. If you have one, what kind is it? My temps are at 80 with out a heater in the tank.

EWC, I bought both lights from Marine Depot. Price was comparable. I mainly went with them because I was looking for a place to compile a Christmas wish list for my wife from one place.

Dano, no chiller. The IceCap fan is providing enough evap to control the temps.

i use a litermeter3 for kalk top off...keeps parameters spot on. doses kalk 150 times a day for whatever evap rate i have....so i evap ~1/2 gallon/day, so set it to dose 1/2 gallon 150 times over 24 hours. keeps system super stable. parameters are always:

ph 8.1-8.25
ca 400
alk 3.5 meq

the best part is i dont touch the tank for 1 to 2 weeks sometimes. just look at it and feed the fish.

Flyingphish

Quick question. How long has that tank been up and running? just wondering how stable over how long with that dosing pump.

I looked on Marinedepot but I couldn't find the type of moonlights you have? Can you possibly send me the link to it?

and yes any more updated pics??
