um, this is ridiculous...

Hornets have cheapened big time. You can buy 5-8 polyps of any of them for less than $80-100.

I simply cannot seem to grow zoos at a rate that would warrant those kind of prices. But hey some people are willing to spend the money, or they wouldn't be asking that price for them.

coral are only worth what you can get for them, if people didnt buy them for that price they wouldnt be at that price. I refuse but many do not, just another way to try and out do each other.

its capitalism

google "supply and demand model".

its a standard accounting equation.

low supply (slow growers, coral just collected for first time so just entering market etc.) and high demand (exotic colors and growth forms) = higher price or the ability for the seller to ask a higher price.

free market enterprise at its finest. its not just with corals...

this is true, if you don't buy them, they can't sell them.

but...

in america, those that have the money will buy them. capitalism and consumerism... this is America, after all (which is in turn, influencing the rest of the world).

I have Red, Blue, and Purple hornets, and they are great growers in my tank. I recently sold 10p of Blue hornets for $80, and also sold some red hornet frags at $30pp. As was mentioned, the prices on these have come way down.

I guess you should take the source into consideration, I find many things on eBay far overpriced.

this is so true.

i've seen used items on ebay that sell for more than brand new ones in the store. one example, look up guitar effects pedals.

not sure why this happens but I only sell on ebay, i don't buy unless its the absolutely only place i can get what i am looking for.

...with the resources that are out there - paying $100-300 + for a frag of anything is a waste of money...
Help a local reefer by buying a bulb for their tank , give someone a fish , etc. . .. .. and let's get back to the BARTER system with this.

Heh, a friend of mine sold his 1.5 year old Mac Mini for the price of a brand new one by selling it on eBay. That's not to say you can't find a deal on there(I've found quite a few) but generally, it is over priced.

coralmorphologic had some of the blue hornets on their site a few days ago. Looked like about 10 polyps for somewhere around $30 (don't remember the actual price, but most things on their site go for around that). It's not about supply and demand its about people being duped into not shopping around.
