How do you guys like this shop? PM me if you don't want to post. I am sking because I just saw a sign that we are going to have one on west side of Fort Wayne.

Let us reefers in the Fort know what you guys think.

Thanks

The Greenwood store is very helpfull. The wife and I go there about twice a month to get our fish stuff or dog food.

uncle bills is ok...they are starting to get ORA frags in for CHEAP $35 for a pearlberry at greenwood...they still have it i think

I know a few guys that work there. They are not very knowledgeable and they are not the cheapest on the block but they have a good selection. I buy there if none of the other places are available.

the one in fishers is extreamly helpful and the guy on the weekend named james is a genious when it comes to saltwater. Anyone else go to the nobelville/fishers store? There is a younger kid there who knows his stuff as well. There stock is good and fish department is the best around. Prices vary but there selection is fantastic.

if you havent been there, go and if travis (younger kid) is there, ask for him.

When I was down that way this past fall, I was told the one if Fishers wasn't worth going to, that the one that was out south was better, but was to far for me to travel.

I will check them out for sure when they get up here, as I am sure the rest of the club will to. I don't think it will hurt the main LFS, but some of the others that are setup like Uncle Bills, I can see those being in trouble possibly. But where they are going in, I think the closest thing is a PetCo.

i have found that if you know what you are looking for and dont need to ask any of them anything you will be fine no mater which one you go to. the one in greenwood used to have this younger kid there that knew his stuff but havent seen him in a couple of years. if there is any thiing you need premium is worth it, but i am also local so its easy for me and not a far drive so no shipping. on the indmas.com site there are a couple guys, transmatt, billy73,and jcoleman 3 that will blow anyones price away on anything.

Are they hobbist? or in the business? I am on your site from time to time, but not a paying member, so I can't see what the local guys have unless they post on RC.

It would be nice to be that close to PA.

The guys @ UB Noblesville/Fishers are working hard to keep a good selection. Travis, the youger guy, certainly has a wealth of knowledge.

I find all of the guys genuinely care about the hobby and are reefers themselves. They know their prices are competitive, for a highoverhead box store, but can't compete with lower overhead guys. They will order and try hard to get whatever you're looking for.

The best time to go there is on Thursday night after their truck arrives that afternoon. (probably shouldn't have shared that secret!)

IMHO, for a chain store they represent the hobby well.

The Greenwood store is especially nice after their remodel this summer. I work across the street and sometimes just go in to look around.

I have a cousin in Noblesville, every now and then I get down there to have lunch with him, I might have to check them out once. I always wanted to go to PA, but I work the weekend shift, so thats always out of the question

upon being involved with the fishers location, i find that if your looking for a lot of equipment and generally rare items like ancans, PA is your best bet.

Now on the other hand, if you dont mind paying an average of $10 dollar premium add on to most fish, it is well worth the return. The guys there speak for the individual store. They give quality info with fish and coral being properly kept. The fishers store is the top selling fish room of the chain so check it out and post what you think.

The worst part about UB's is getting out of there without buying a puppy. If you know what you arre looking for you can sometimes get some good deals on corals.

UB seems to be in for the long haul. Competitive pricing and nice selection make it worth looking into. Weekend guys really know their “stuff” and are willing to share their knowledge. The store in Fishers is usually packed with shoppers so sometimes difficult to get one on one help on weekends. Furry pet crowds wonder into the fish room to admire the wet pets. If you can get in during the week you can usually have some quiet time to enjoy the selection. Coral selection is fantastic and priced to sell.

I will never shop at Uncle Bill's. While they may certainly have people who are knowledgeable, my last visit to the East Washington store made up my mind to never visit again.

I saw a foxface rabbitfish with a large open sore. This can be forgiven. Fish get sick it happens but...

there were seahorses in tanks with high flow and blue hippo tangs. One of the horses didn't even have a dorsal fin. This in my mind is ridiculous. If you do not have enough knowledge to know that seahorses must be kept with a discreet few other tankmates and low flow then you do not have the ability to give me advice on any other fish.

Not to mention that they get their puppies from puppy mills. I can't, in good conscience, support an establishment that buys animals that are treated so inhumanly...

Just my .02

ignorance is bliss i assume.. okay you can vary well judge uncle bills based on the washington store. Lemme guess that you have yet to wander to fishers or greenfield. Each store runs itself and right now scott (greenfield) and tom (fishers) are doing fantastic jobs regulating fish rooms. to assume all the unlce bills are similar is to be quite closed-minded.

as far as puppies are concerned, i will not comment until i know more but they seem to have relative high health which leads me to belive they are not mistreated or disease ridden. again i dont know enough.

Actually I have been into the fishers store shortly after it opened. I went in with my wife and even she noticed how many of the fish didn't look like they had been fed since the store opened and how many of them had ick. It may be better now. I do not know I haven't been back.

Now on the flip side. I do have friends who shop at UB's Regularly and do not have problems. The shop they frequent the most is UB's in Greenwood.

As far as the puppy mills.

Here's part one of WTHR's investigation:

or just type "puppy mills uncle bills pet store" in google and you will get lots of answers.

The whole puppy mill thing is the main reason I do not shop there. I'm sure the puppies are fine and healthy, but knowing that they came from a place where the parents are kept in a cage their entire life is somewhat disturbing to me. I would much rather pay a few dollars more for a coral or fish then shop at a store that supports puppy mills.
