Alex and I were starting to add mysis shrimp to the tank when we noticed something different. The porcelin crab had relocated himself just over the home of the Yasha / Pistol pair. The yasha exits the hole, backs away, and the smack down begins. The pistol pops a few caps at the crab, but I guess he missed and the crab stood his ground. After a few bursts and an advance the crab took a swipe at the shrimp. This went back and forth for what seemed to be close to 5 minutes. Alex had a chance to hear why they call them Pistol shrimps. I kinda wanted the pistol to stun the crab enough to teach him to stay back, but I guess he was firing blanks. That was the most excitement we have seen in our little reef. Wish I had the camcorder out and posted that on Youtube. I have made the crab move as I don't want either of them getting hurt. It was a funny and entertaining event.

Some funny stuff happens in reef tanks. Your story reminds me of when my Cleaner Shrimp, a Scarlett reef hermit, and a blue leg hermit all congregated outside the hole where my pistol shrimp resides. They all had their backs to the hole, and were feeding on some cyclopeeze I had squirted into the tank. The Pistol shrimp came out of the hole to feed, snuck into the circle of inverts that had met up outside his hole, and started popping away. The Cleaner shrimp about came out of his skin he jumped so fast, and the 2 hermits took off running across the sandbed like they were on fire. It was hilarious..... Good stuff happens daily in our tanks if we are there at the right time to see it.... lol

The only funny thing that I have seen,is when my cleaner shrimp picks my ywg up and turns it upside down to give it a good cleaning.

im allways hearing my pistol at night or when i feed the large serpant star trys to go into the pistols hole and all you hear is pop pop

I have had my tiger pistol (bulldozer) and blue spotted watchman goby(mugs) for about 3 years. I was up in the computer room one night and kept hearing loud popping. I turned around to see bulldozer climbing up the side of my magfloat, which was right in front of their burrow. My snails love to lay eggs on the magfloat. Apparently bulldozer was attempting to get to some of the eggs and was po'd that he could not get to those that had slipped between the magfloat and the glass. He did this for the longest. Wish I had made a video of it. He also likes to drag hermits into the burrow, just to have them climb out again.
