Undesolved salt in aquarium, how to remove it?

Hi,

I just mixed some salt in my 10 gallon quarintine tank I am setting up to battle an ich issue, and I have some salt that just keeps settling at the bottom of the tank no matter how I often I stir it up.

SG is perfect, 1.026, temp is around 77-80. What can I do to remove it? It's been mixing in the tank with a hydor 240 for 2 days now and just coats everything.

Let it settle to the bottom with out the power head then siphon it out. It is not salt but some other substance in the salt mix that will not dissolve.

what brands salt are you using?

I agree with lapin, it has to be some kind of precipitate or something from the salt mix that won't dissolve. syphon it out and you should be good to go.

My guess is you're using reef crystals? I had this happen to me a long time ago with reef crystals, I did the same, syphoned it out and everything was fine.

I am using Seachem Vibrant Sea. I find it cloudy to start but it always cleared up by the next day. I checked my PH and it was way off wack, it didn't even match any of the colors on the card.

I am not sure what happened but I dumped it and started a new batch. Pretty sure it was some sort of precipitate as well. Interesting. Possibly to warm while mixing? My heater went rogue and temp hit about 82F during the mixing.

That could be the problem, I usually mix my salt cold over night. By morning its all de-solved and then I add in my heater and watch the temp till it reaches 77F. Cloudy mix is ok to use, it will clear up by itself within 24-48 hours. Don't dump your money down the drain.
