Hello,
I have a story to tell, about a buy I made from Marine Depot. My 585$ purchase from Marine Depot cost me 1200$. Here is how it happened.
I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, I knew there would be some shipping costs. After tallying my items online, and checking the shipping quote, it guessed at 65$ ish. I was fine with that. The website offered free shipping, so I called them and talked to one of their salespersons on the phone. I asked if I qualified for the shipping, and they said no...but they would give me 10% off my order. I thought, Awesome!!
I thought heck, while I'm on the phone, might as well order it. And that's just what i did. I used my credit card to pay, and thought nothing of it. I usually use paypal, but i was on the phone, so ya...
I look at my credit card bill a few days later...900+$!!! ***? I knew the CAD was low, but wow. Visa gave me 53cents on the dollar. That day the loonie was at 62cents. I felt ripped off...called...got nowhere. I guess i have to be ok with that. I looked at the value of the loonie at the time of the purchase, and did the conversion, and was ok with that. 900$ is a little steep...but ok. My fault i guess.
Today: I get an email from ups saying they have unsuccessfully delivered my package and they would try again. So i called the depot, went through the rig-a-rim-o, and will pick it up tomorrow. Just before the telephone conversation was ending, the service rep said, "Oh, there is a COD charge here of 241$." WHAT?!?!?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?! FOR WHAT?!?!?!?!
I explain to him that I've ordered things from this business before, and I have never paid that high of duty/boarder charges. Most I've ever paid would be maybe 50$. The ups service agent told me that my charges are based on my package value. 585xCAD value=900$x boarder/duty %= 241$ Funny they did that in CAD eh? haha.
So, here I am...mad...not sure at who...why?! lol. So I call Marine Depot and tell them the story. They were nice about it, but said it's not their charges/fee, they really can't do anything about it. And i understand.
At this point, I don't even want the package....it will cost me 1200$ total after i pay the 241 at the ups depot to get it. (Tomorrow afternoon) That's sick!! That is not how i shop...this has never happened to me at all....and I've ordered $1000's from Marine Depot...never had a service/duty/boarder/**** CAD happen this bad.
I asked the Marine Depot rep if I can just send the package back. He said yes, but at a 25% restocking fee. .....lol....really? I asked if there are any other options we can use? He said no. I told him everything i said here and still, nothing he can do. The phone started to get really static at this point, and we parted ways. I felt really let down by the Marine Depot staff. Everyone...is giving me the run around...
So here are my options.
1. Don't pick up the package/Send it back. This way i would pay the restocking fee and eat the initial shipping but get some of my money back. Cost = 150(Restocking fee)+68(initial shipping)=218$+900=1118$total
2. Pay the 241$ from ups depot and have paid 1200$ for 585$ worth of product. Similar to option 1. haha.
3. Marine Depot forgo the restocking fee and i loose 68$(Initial shipping)
The reason I am holding Marine Depot mostly responsible is because I am under the understanding that they are a super awesome company. I have done lots of business through them. Wicked awesome service, and prices, and for the most part, costumer care. Having said that, to make all of this go away, all they need to do is forgo the restocking fee and make another costumer happy.
What do I do? What would you do?
(I'm sorry if this isn't in the right place, not sure what category to post this in)
