Unhappy Ricordea?

I have this in my tank, not sitting on the bottom but in the lower part towards the front of the tank. I'm not sure if it is getting too much light, but the brown color seems to be fading. I believe this is an orange-spot yuma, but I'm not certain. When I got it, the "belly" was brown. The tips are orange with a little bright green on them. The underside and mouth are bright green.

It was facing the other direction, then flipped itself 180 degrees to the other side. The foot has attached to the rock, so I assumed it was happy.

I have a 90g with 2 AI Sol Blue light fixtures running parallel to the front. The fixtures are about 6" AWL because of my canopy. My max setting on the light is 60% white and 70% Blue and Royal for about 2 hours. The total photoperiod for the white is about 9 hours, with most of that ramp up and down time.

Should I try to move this? If it has attached, will I damage it by trying to move it?

From what I have read yuma's are hard to keep happy...

If the color is getting lighter that is probably what is called "coral bleaching," which usually does mean that it is getting too much light.

And to answer your question, if you try to pull it off the rock, yes, it will upset the coral more. Also from what I've read about them they tend to like low flow/low light areas of the tank. Is there any way you could move the rock it's settled on to a lower light area? Or shade where it is with another rock? Just some thoughts.

If you use RC's search function you should be able to find a ton of sad stories of people killing yuma's... not to bum you out, but I was just reading about them yesterday. Good luck!

I keep my yuma rics about 6 inches from the bottom and they are super happy with light flow. I have a couple florida rics about the same height up, and a bunch right on the sand and the ones on the sand are much much happier with very light flow but very random. I would start with it as low as you can, in moderate light and see how that goes.

When I had t5s I could have farmed the things, but with leds mine just survive. I would move it around until it looks happier. Maybe too much light.

It is a yuma, ive had 5 of them once until they all perished randomly. Bow i just have one about 1 inch across. IMO the hardest mushroom to keep and almost one of the hardest softys to keep

I have 6 (had 8) ricordea and they are slowly getting smaller and smaller like the 2 that died. Doesn't matter where I put them, they just don't like my tank.

I have had rics bleach before due to too much light... then again I have had some get richer in color... what I have found is that it is best to give them the choice :lmao: simply put the mouth of the ric directly on the edge of a shelf's shadow and wait... if the ric wants shade, it will simply stretch its neck in towards the dark side :strooper: on the flip side, if they want more light then it will go that path... either way rics are always finicky, best you can do is let them do what they want.... GOOD LUCK
