Anyone have questions? Fire away!

Jake I truely think you should just hold on to it and make it freshwater. You deserve a lot more money than 1300.00 fair that tank.

Guys, thanks for the encouragement to keep the tank and go freshwater. Maybe we can start the next freshwater club ;)

In all seriousness I would like to find a new home for the tank and will probably start a small (20g) freshwater tank for the family to enjoy.

Gina, I like the idea but not so much with this tank. I'm sure there are tiny scratches that are invisible with water in it, but as soon as it dries out they'll be visible again. Even thought it wouldn't be nearly as much work this time around I really don't want to polish the tank again.

I had a couple of people locally who were interested in the tank, but it looks like it's probably not going to happen. I was just saying that every day I'm thinking more and more about what I would do if I convert to freshwater...

I actually started looking at the "river tank" kit (which is like a vivarium and aquarium in one) and thought that would be neat, but decided too much work and too many permanent mods to the tank (my current one) which would make selling it at some future point just about impossible. So... I'm thinking South-American river biotope. I want to run it cool (66-68) since my air exchange likes to keep the tank cool anyway, and this will minimize heater use. This rules out a lot of fish but I was able to find a handful that fit the biotope profile in that temp range. I was considering going planted, but think instead I'll settle for faux aquatic plants much much easier. I'm thinking about using a gyre type of setup to create moderate unidirectional flow that I can do with a couple of Koralia's. So, yeah I already have the FW mindset going.

I just need to get the LR sold, I might even take it over to Twins. After that I can start the conversion process. We shall see!

Jacob.....too much thought.

African Cichlids and rock/gravel from the Foothills. Let the kids pick out a couple of colorful ones. Flow less important than you think. We're talking lake fish. No tides or major currents to speak of.

The vivarium or invert tank might still be possible. Moisture/humidity may fill/erase the finer scratches.

Time for a trip to the Steinhart or Oakland Zoo to see their amphibian/reptile displays. Some viewing panels are obscured by "dew".

Chris,

I don't think the Cichlids will tolerate temps in the mid 60's very well will they? I want to run my tank as cool as possible. Vivarium is out due to many complexities of it.

Won't kill them but they'd get by; just slower metabolism. But I'd keep it simple and run it room temp with a heater as needed (right Gina...simple). Freshwater fish should be all about plopping the fish in and enjoying. And oh by the way, you got to siphon the gravel occasionally.
