Unusual DSB question

after much reading i've decide to go with a DSB. i was planing to use 4 inch. my question is: can i put 6inches up the back of the tank and gradually slope to about 2inches up the front? would that be the same as an even 4inches?

That will work fine. My sandbed has some very shallow areas from the water flow.

I would not go down to 2" IMO no less than 4".

I started with 4 to 5 inches in my 125 and over time the engineer gobies and the water flow have it to less than 2 inches in some spots and more than 7 inches in places.

If you want the DSB to be functional, I would say keep it at least 4" deep in the tank. Some very small shallow areas might be okay.
