while feeding my fish the other day i noticed something eating the food other then a fish. after looking over some live rock for a couple of minutes i noticed that there was a shrimp hiding in a whole in a piece of LR. i have to not gotten any good photos of it, but it looks like a mantis shrimp of some kind. It is about 1/2 in round and about 2 in long, dark brown and q-tip looking eyes. my tank has been set-up for 2 months now and i never saw any sort of sign of this shrimp before yesterday. any suggestions on how to get it out will be much appreciated and i will try to post some pics for id. thanks.

There is a couple of ways of doing this. You can get a bucket of freshwater that is close to the same temp as your tank. Put enough water in the bucket to cover the rock. It should shoot out. If that doesn't work you could do the club soda trick. Get a turkey baster and club soda and shoot it in the hole where it is and it should come flying out. Just make sure you have a bucket or a large bowl with some of your tankwater. Shoot the club soda into the rock over the bucket or bowl. And if those two don't work go over into the mantis forum and look up the water bottle trap. Hope this helps and don't kill it. They make interesting additions to your saltwater family. If you don't want to keep it offer it for free in the mantis forum or take it to your lfs for trade.
