Update on my tank that "had" ich

I am just being skeptical because I have seen no signs from it yet. How is it alive still if its just staying dormant?

The parasites could be in the gills. They also don't always leave the tell-tale white spots. They don't necessarily grow large enough to show the spots to the naked eye.

But if they were in the gills, wouldn't your fish show signs? Is it fatal if they are in the gills? Because I have seen nothing yet??

Depends on the number of parasites. You might see an increase in the respiration rate.
Is it fatal if they are in the gills?
Again, it depends on the numbers. Your fish could very well have some partial immunity to the parasite. That way they keep the number of parasites down to non-lethal levels. But, the parasites continue to live, waiting for a drop in immunity or for the introduction of a new fish without the same protection, so the population can explode.
Because I have seen nothing yet?
Like I said, there are several reasons why you wouldn't see spots. That doesn't mean the parasites might not be there.

Thanks for all the facts Steven. HAve a question though. Could there possibly be something in the sand that eats the ich? I have looked real closely at my clowns and have seen no breathing patterns that have been distorted in any way but like you said it they could be partially immune to the ich. But the thing is, I just added to clarkiis to my tank. There is no way they could already be partially immune to the parasites already. They have only been in the tank like 4 days.

You don't know what kind of previous exposure those clownfish might have had at the retail shop, wholesale place, etc. Immunity, and its intensity, is based upon the number of non-lethal exposures to the parasite.

Well I hate to admit this but I got my pair of clarkiis at Petco. I know...bad move but they looked really healthy and their price was unbeatable. So chanced it. Actually I lied. My smallest clarkii has some cloudiness to its right eye. What is that? I just noticed it yesterday.

PetCo generally gets its captive reared fish from ORA, so that is a positive.

Sometimes when a parasite attaches to a fish's eye, it gets a secondary bacterial infection, i.e. cloudy eye.

I am glad you admitted it and are now learning. That is why you should always QT anything wet for at least 4-6 weeks before putting in the main tank. That way crypto, velvet, etc., can be erradicated before you enter it into the main tank.

But will it go away. I know I skipped the quarantine. Shame on me. But will this advance really bad or is it something small?

Steven Pro may be able to answer that for you. I have never had crypto in my main tank because I have dealt with it in QT. The most recent boute I had with it was in Feb. when I bought a tiny six line wrasse and a CBB. After 3 days in QT they both showed spots of crypto(ich). I then used the hyposalinity method on them in QT and took care of it there. Whereby I never introduced it into my main display.

The cloudy eye will go away but could use medicated foods...any with a antibiotic...it is just another sign of stres. IMO, keep a very healthy environment, and temp stable...and things will work out.

good luck,

Grant
