UPDATEs on CMAS FRAG SWAP for May 18th, 2013!!!!

Hypocrisy is a very human trait. Everyone is a hypocrite. I am very displeased with the current issues of the club and choose not to renew my membership at this time until i am comfortable with joining again, but i will support the vendors to buy corals.

People Be Like I hate CMAS I'm not supporting them, but then you see them at the Swap buying up those Corals.... LOL..

Wish I had a Pic for this....

The real proof will be the number of renewals vs new members over the next 6-12 months to point at wether they are supporting CMAS. We will see if those numbers are published. I am going because a group of friends is going and I want to meet up with them, not out if CMAS loyalty. Don't confuse the two.

+1. My membership ran out last month I think.

The board doesn't want help changing, they just want help doing things their way. The last board was like that and this board is exactly the same.

Not sure what is worse, the president who was a liar and didn't listen to any of his members or the president who listens to his members but only enough to belittle them, make a snide comment, and do things his way anyway.

I also completely agree that people shouldn't just join to get into swaps for free, however at the current time there are ZERO other benefits of being a member of CMAS.

My membership has also run its course and will not be renewed until some personnel changes are made and some by-law revisions requiring constant transparency are instituted. 100% of this clubs issues can be resolved by revising the by-laws to (1) Make them legal under local, state and federal law (at the present time they are not); (2) Outline exactly what each officer MUST do in order to continue to hold their office; (3) Create a way for a majority membership vote to remove an officer at any time (people work harder when they are held accountable); (4) Outline exact member benefits that the club MUST provide based on the (x) amount of dollars a member pays to be a part of the club; and (5) Create a system of transparency that MUST be followed in order for officers to retain their position on the board.

Good luck to the vendors at the swap tomorrow, hope everyone gets all the coral their heart desires! I'll be busy graduating from Law School!

Since I am not a member, I don't know what the club goals are. I am not sure bigger is necessarily a goal. Everyone on here assumes that CMAS losing members is a bad thing. I think it would be good for them. If they lost all of the people that just paid to be a member to get into swaps, they no longer have to worry about whether or not they are making that crowd happy. They can stick to driving the club in the direction that the active members want the club to go without all of the talk about "secret objectives." The only reason these threads have gone the way they have, is because there are a bunch of people financially committed to the club. Just like you said, people are going to support the vendors and meet their friends. CMAS will make a little money from them, but have no obligation to them for it. The money they receive will simply be for entry into the swap and not have any ties to being part of the club. I truly think a smaller membership base will be good for the club. It will also allow money from the club to go farther and make being a member a better benefit (more speakers for members only events or however else CMAS spends their money).

And I agree with skunkmere - everyone is a hypocrite to some extent - I am a hypocrite again with this post as I should just keep my fingers off the keyboard, but I am just so tired of everyone bashing CMAS. I get it - you don't want to be part of the club anymore - then don't. Let them be the club they want to be - there are actual quite a few different clubs and swaps within driving distance of chicago. And nothing stops anybody from organizing their own. I know there is another local forum that organizes their own stuff for this reason. I just don't see a reason to keep driving the swap threads down the road of "I'm not going to be a member anymore"

The swap threads should be full of corals right now - the swap is tomorrow.

The funnest swaps i been to were smaller swaps with less turn out. it seemed like everyone got a raffle prize and there was room for movement at the vfw. Maybe less membership or turnout will be a good thing.

Lost my long post I didn't even have time to write. :(

All suggestions on the raffle were considered, I even personally looked into outsourcing the whole think to a Live Auctioneer Company, to make it more fun, take out any chance or look of impropriety, but the cost was too much for me to justify of the clubs money without checking with the membership. Maybe for at MACI. I did not have any info in past events and raffles to make a educated decision.

Anyway, I have a swap to set up for. ;) Hope to see all the suggestions at the set up.

O, and BTW what snide comments are we talking about, I must have missed that one. ;)

Anyhow the swap was awesome I thought the venue was great and seems as if the raffle went smoothly since they did a raffle every 30 minutes threw out the swap.. That way people didn't have to stick around all day. Tons of Vendors and sellers. Went home with a backpack full of frags.. Thanks again CMAS for a great time

+1 .... I also got some nice frags and mini colonys. I did seem to overhear many vendors complaining about poor turnout and low sales, but I was there early, Im sure by the end of the day they did ok. It did seem to me though, that there was a lot of the same or similair corals from many vendors, so I guess it made selling competitive , which makes it better for us ...
Just wish I had more money to try a cpl of those scolly's I saw......nice

man, sounded like a good one to go to, fist the Janesville one, now this one, argghh...when's the next one, I wonder of the fragstock up north of Milwaukee in sept will be good?
