Sorry for slow responses I have been very busy.
Steal. Steel. Meant as a light joke on quick typing spelling errors.
Got it im slow sometimes :debi:
thats a crap load of tanks my god!
300g would be the main tank, and then something like this
80g/60g/80g
Yes something like that
What lighting are you gonna run for the clownfish and anemone tank?
I am thinking led on everything with t5 supplement.
Hey Roger. I really like the idea, and I can't wait for you to do it so I can come check it out. mainly because I'm not allowed to do it.
Question: are you planning to run everything off the same set up? Or are you going to split things up?
I know that it would be more work, but what do you think about the display tank in the front tank on one system and everything else on another system?
I would love to keep it easy and have it all run on one sump but honestly I think I have learned my lesson on this current setup when sps are doing great everything else not so much and vis versa. I think I will buy a few pm1 for apex to control temp and go from there.
Can't wait to see this come together. Only way to make your current system any better is to expand it!
It was a hard debate. The display is doing so good I wanted to let keep growing out but now things r running out of room to keep growing
Roger,
Can your current equipment handle that water volume? CaRx, Skimmer, etc. If not, I would go with at least two sumps to reduce equipment expense and also to reduce risk if something should go wrong.
Would you build the 300 dd into the wall where your current 120 is located?
The calcium reactor could handle the whole setup as one but the skimmer no.
Ok well I will do my best to explain where. It will be In wall but on the wall that the frag tank is on. That puts it in the garage. I will be making my 3 car garage a 2 car garage. I will build a wall the length of the garage. Make a 2 car garage and a 1 car fish room. The ac is right above that so adding a couple ac vents will be easy. The garage door is already insulated. I will frame the wall and insulate the way. Drywall both sides and have a door in the garage to get into the fish room. Tanks will line both sides of the 1 car garage.
Or maybe build a wall at an angle where your current tanks are (stretching from the from meet the front door to your hallway if I remember right)....
Then you can add a door from the laundry room into the new "fish room".
See above for my plan on placement .
Roger,
Unless you have 3 side access behind that wall you have a problem.
I have long arms & thought more than once about maintenance & just plain working on a depth of 36", went with 30" instead & it still can be troublesome.
You will definitely need a front access over the glass!
It's a good point I will have to do some measuring. I have about 8 feet where the viewing side is. The side for accessing the tank will have more I beleive. If I have to I could do a 5ft tank instead.
Thanks for input.
Multiple tanks with different biotypes on a common sump is a bit tricky from my experience.
I have a 120 SPS tank, 60 gallon cube euplilia/BTA tank, and a 40 breeder frag tank all on a shared sump with an additional 40 gallon refugium.
Each tank behaves differently even though sharing the same water!!! The 120 SPS tank is immaculate, the BTA/torch cube constantly has algae coming and going. The frag tank grows zoas and montis but wont keep a birdsnest alive.
If I could do it again (when I do actually) I would/will set them up as 2 systems. Then do water changes from my SPS system into my LPS system. Also this prevents me from having all my eggs in 1 basket so to speak.
Sounds like an amazing project Roger. Keep us posted!!
I agree the question becomes how many different sumps will I have to do? Would like to keep it ad a min. I would think the anemone, sps tank could be on same sump. Ricordia mushroom Yuma and softy tank same sump, zoa tank and frag tank on same sump. What's your thoughts on that?
Please keep the questions and comments coming. It makes me think things through a bit more. I can c it in my head but I have to work on measuring up garage area and also tank needs.
Roger
