Might I also suggest the GHL Mitras LX7206.. It's more expensive than the Maxspect but the color channels in the Mitras will do wonders for coral coloration. It's also insanely powerful with ridiculous spread. Because of the 6 LED clusters and their arrangement in two side by side rows of 3 well spaced out clusters, it does a better job from a shadowing standpoint than a light like the Maxspect that has all the clusters in a single row.
One thing that is often overlooked is the colors of the corals and how much of an impact lighting has on the colors we see in our corals. I have a Maxspect Razor over my display refugium which also has some corals in it and it's an OK light but they really don't do much for coral coloration. You just don't have the mix of diodes that can be controlled like you do with some of the higher end fixtures. My main display is a mixed reef with soft corals, LPS and SPS. It's 4'x8'x2' tall and I've got 10 Kessil 360WE's over it. I've had an LX7 over my frag tank for a couple months now as I was fortunate enough to get my hands on one of the MACNA demos. All my frags have been growing great under it but when I first installed it, I was truly shocked. I had fragged a piece of my strawberry short cake colony that's been growing under my Kessils for some time. When I placed the frag in my frag tank, I was absolutely floored with the difference in coloration of that frag compared to the Kessils the moment I placed it in there. The difference was night and day and what is a white'ish colony with burgundy polyps in the main display was almost neon green with red polyps under the Mitras. I've been running the Maxspect razor for some time now and know what corals look like under it. While it's powerful and will grow corals, it doesn't do corals much justice in terms of color. Truth is that unless you have different lights to compare to, you would never know what corals can really look like. I've run Maxspect, Kessils and even had a Radion G3 Pro and the Mitras LX7 is by far the most impressive fixture I've had to date. So impressive that I have 6 of them here which I will be installing on my main display as early as tomorrow. Not only are they powerful and offer great spread but the control over the color channels and the mix of LED's brings out colors in corals like no other fixture I've ever seen.
Here is the mother colony under the Kessils. If it were under the Maxspect, it would be even less impressive.
This is frag from that same colony under the LX7. This ins't that good of a shot and does it little justice.
This is another coral under the Mitras using a macro lens and a top down camera viewer.
And what I think is a Loony Tunes Cyphastrea. I got it really cheap from a frag swap as it was represented as some other cyphastrea that was grown under T5's. After a few weeks under the Mitras it completely morphed it's colors into one of the most beautiful specimens I've ever had my hands on.
