You know those cool, coke bottle-shaped conical diffusers on the bubble plate of the ConeS protein skimmer line?

AquaMaxx just upgraded the HOB-1 with the same style plus redesigned the hang-on bracket AND increased the size of the collection cup!

Best of all, they're now IN STOCK"”while supplies last, anyway. Here are some photos we shot of the new skimmer:

Hi unkel j! We're actually not sure yet, but we received about a dozen requests from hobbyists wanting to upgrade their old HOB-1's since we first posted about the new components. We let our buyers know and they've already reached out to AquaMaxx to find out if they can be sold separately as an upgrade kit or something of that nature. We are sorry this took us an extra day to complete but we measured the collection cup for you a few moments ago. The new cup measures 3 7/16” x 2 5/8” x 5 5/8” tall. The riser tube inside the cup is also an oval shape as opposed to a perfect circle on the older models. Hope that helps!

Our buyers are aware hobbyists are interested in purchasing the new components as an upgrade kit of sorts but we haven't heard back yet whether that's feasible. We'll certainly post about it here if/when they do become available.

Just so everyone doesn't think that they need the new cup, some may already have it.

As for the performance of this skimmer, it's pretty incredible. It far exceeds my expectations.

You are absolutely right: they were released a couple of months back. This isn't exclusive to AquaMaxx, but often manufacturers will send us an updated version of their product without notifying us and it isn't until our warehouse crew or even a customer notices that we update the photos and description accordingly.

We appreciate your post and for making clear to other RC members who might have been confused about the aforementioned changes.

No updates yet, jlobes, but I wouldn't rule it out completely. We've been talking to AquaMaxx recently about some new products so we'll broach the subject and see if it's possible (and update here if we hear anything worthwhile).

Looking forward to the updates. I was thinking about this last week after cleaning my skimmer and how much better it was working after its full cleaning. It would be nice to see how much the updates have changed the efficiency.

We've heard exactly nada on this front, but I asked our lead buyer once again to ask AquaMaxx about it since the interest/demand continues to increase. Here's hoping she hears back favorably!
