Upgraded to 75 gal LR question

Just upgraded from 55gal to 75 gal. I have about 50 lbs. of Live Rock from 55 gal. I heard best to have 1 pound of LR to each gallon of water. I kind of prefer not to have to get more LR, since I like how it is now after starting up 75gal tank and switching LR I had over. How important is it that I get more LR, or can I get away with what I have now?

You are probably fine. What type of rock is it and what kind/how may fish do you want to keep? The more porous the rock, the less you can get away with. Fiji is light/porous. You can do anything from 3/4 to 1.5 lbs/gallon and generally be fine. You can always add more fully cured rock from the LFS if you find your ammonia isn't settling down.

it depends on your bioload. of course if you only have the same amount of bioload as the 55g then you're good. the more bioload you add, the more rock you're gonna need.

It is Fiji rock & is very porous. I don't plan on adding any more fish, just more corals. The fish I have are same as listed on my profile as "current tanks".

personally I think you'd be ok... You may run into a mini cycle onee you get your new tank running. I have added Super Bac in the past when starting up a new tank or upgrading.

I don't think you'll ever need more, especially if you have a decent skimmer and do regular water changes. I only have about 100 lbs in my 200 gallon system, and it's never been a problem.

Thanks for advise, I am amazed at how much more space I have in my new 75 gallon verses the 55 gal I had, and it adds much more viewing dimension. More corals!!! :)
