Upgrading buy Down sizing

Great looking tank, think I've seen it elsewhere ;) Love the idea of recessing the external overflow in the wall...very clean install.

One comment, since I have a 3 ft. wide tank with vortechs. I have had problems with them blowing a bare spot by the glass. I ended up going with some 2-5 mm crushed coral substrate by the glass and it seems to have solved the problem.

Re: lighting -- Some japanese spotlights would be schweeet over this setup. They are pricy, but allow you to have your lighting 2-3 ft above your water level, which is great for a rimless. I know some folks are putting together an order for some. PM me for info if you are interested. I do like that this size allows you to do one big halide in a nice reflector, and your plan sounds good to.

Great start to what I am sure will be a spectacular display!

I really like the external over and may have to employ one with my future upgrade. ;)

Thx Sunny. After having no access to the back of my tank for 5 years, and 2 ugly internal drains, I had to rig this one to look clean and be able to get to the plumbing.

How was the communication with AGE? I have found them difficult to talk with. They are extremely knowledgeable, but lack in the communication department. Great looking setup though. Should be easy to take all the prize corals from a larger tank .

PAINFUL. Communication is not good at all. I went 10+ days at a time with no replies.

I always get a mental jolt looking at electrical near any overflow or sump.

Good luck with the new setup. My suggestion would be to change those recepticles to GFCI.

Those are not hooked up yet. I plan on having a case to block them.

The layout of the overflow into the closet is AWESOME!!!

I can't wait to see this all come together. Great work so far, keep it up!

Thx. The 'closet' is my old fish room. Its ~8'x3.5'

Was just wondering the thickness of glass, looks like 1/2 but dont want to make any assumptions.

The tank looks so sweat! its what I want to get started on!!

Sad to say, but I think it's 1/2"

You do realize this is my dream tank? Perfect size. Cubes are awesome.

Mine too. Been thinking about doing this for ~18 months and one day I ran it by the wife and she said, "smaller? YES! Start today".

Thx for the tip on the substrate, I have 1 Vortech in there right now and it has created a bear spot. I was hoping that the LR and corals would stop that.

Thx for the offer, but I'm not a fan of the spots, the tanks look splotchy (see below) when looking at the 'whole' tank. Individual corals look sick and you can segment the tank but thats not my bag.

I moved most of the 250 to the 135 two weeks ago. No shock, but the contents of a 250g tank do not fit in to a 135g tank.

This:

Into this:

First was to do the Aquascape in the new tank (Will be redone, not 100% happy with it)

Front Aquascape

Side Aquascape

Top Down (From Front)

I still have ~20 colonies in the 250, that will be fragged. Nice chunks will go in the new display, and the rest will be donated to a local aquaculture farm - that will guarentee me getting replacments should anything die.

Nice its looking great so far. How do you like the skimmer on the set up

Too big, its the Alpha 250. When I get time I'll be looking for a local buyer so I can switch it out for the 200, but before that I need to give the new greyseas cone a try. The Greyseas is made localy and there is a test unit floating around my local club. It's worth a try as the pics look good.

I thought maybe it was too big, but i heard they are nice skimmers. I just got the BK 160 for my 70 gal tank and so i love it. The red dragon pump is awsome.

Thanks guys. I need to get my T5s and VHOs hooked up so the corals can start coloring back up. Here's a quick video from my phone....

Tunze and MJ mod have been replaced with a wave.....

Hope to have lots of updates with being on vacation next week.....

How you liking that wave action Rik? Looks awesome! Hey pm me if you have any high end sps frags for sale from the tank move

I like the wave but not sure if I will keep it. The fish seem to like it.

As for frags, I have nothing. I kept frags so I can get a more natural look when this tank 'grows up', and the colonies were traded for equipment. Plus I doubt I have anthing you would want :D
