upgrading firmware 3.0 to 3.1

I just ordered an expansion module and I was told I needed to upgrade my firmware and aquanotes.
Aquanotes upgraded fine..but how do I upgrade the AC firmware?
Need help please.
Here is the read me file....

If the firmware is being upgrade from version 3.0 to 3.1,then make sure to save the AquaController’s program configuration before upgrading the firmware. The internal program statement structure has changed slightly, and the probe names may change after the firmware upgrade. Also after the upgrade only use version 3.3 of AquaNotes. Previous AquaNotes versions do not support the new program format."
I am upgrading from 3.0 to 3.1, so what do I have to do to save the AC program configuration? I already upgraded
my Aquanotes to 3.3

Follow these steps to update:Run the tftpd.exe application. Make sure that the current directory field points to the directory where you extract the zip file. On the DHCP server tab: Make the IP pool starting address an unused IP address on your local network (usually something like 192.168.1.50). Set the netmask (usually 255.255.255.0) Make the size of pool equal to 1 or more. Set the boot file to aqua.bin Click the save button."
I have no idea what any of this means. I extract the zip file and all I end up with is an AQUA.BIN file 119kb that
I can't open and this read me file. Where/what is the DHCP server tab?

Make sure that no other DHCP server is running on your local network. Shut off all firewalls/filters on your PC. Then restart the AquaController 3 by power cycling. Press the select button and hold down during the Memory Test, when the display goes blank release the select button. Scroll to the update flash entry and press select You should see the downloading window appear from the tftpd application. After the download go to the selftest screen of the AquaController. The firmware version should be 3.10 with a date of 8/1/06."
This is simple enough.

First download the tftpd.exe program from here: http://www.neptunesys.com/tftpd32.zip (once you run this it will be a little clearer).

In order to backup your program... you open aquanotes, connect to your controller and goto Config->Modify Aqua Program.

From there you have a file menu which you can save program as...

Good Morning Dave,
Thanks. I made it a little furthur. I saved program. I ran the tftpd.exe program.
But I don't understand how I upgrade the firmware in my AC when I am doing everything here on my laptop? How by doing the power cycle etc. does the AC upgrade firmware...I never see a downloading window and all my AC does is just reset itself?
I am really missing something here, please excuse me for my ignorance with all this....
Brian

Brian,

Heh... been there before...

Basically the way it works is this...

the tftpd program is a server....
When it sees a computer come up on the network it tells the computer to insall/run a file that can be configured (you set it up so that it's the aqua.bin file).
Recycling the AC units causes it to "come up on the network" and the tftpd program hands it the aqua.bin script that should then upgrade the firmware...

How do I know if my directory field is pointing to the correct directory?
Do I leave "Server Interfaces" at 192.168.0.101?
Do I need to change WINS/DNS Server or Default router from 0.0.0.0?
I'm lost..sorry

I had my server interfaces at 192.168.1.101
No you don't need to change wins/dns

Change the current directory by hitting the browse button to the right of the current directory (or run from the same directory that the aqua.bin file is in).

Dave

Dave, I sincerely appreciate your help. I just suck at this stuff, and it frustrates the crap out of me when this stuff comes up. I have power cycled my AC about 20 times and all with the same results.........still running on 3.0 :(

It might... to get my stuff to work at home I had to have everything hardwired to the network...

Dave

Will try to hardwire my laptop when I get back home..I had to run to work and try to knock out some work..It gets crazy around here right before Biketoberfest.
Thanks for your help Dave...

If you are going to plug the Ethernet cable directly into your laptop you need to use a cross-over type cable or adapter. Make sure that both the green and yellow LEDs are on on the AquaController's Ethernet connector.

Hey Curt, I still couldnt get the firmware to upgrade. I tried the direct hardwire to the AC via crossover cable still no luck. I even went out and purchased another crossover cable and cycled the AC another 20 times and still no luck. I am trying everything, both led's are on, I can see the computer recognise the AC when I power it back up but I never get a downloading window to appear?

I extracted aqua.bin file and tftpd32 to a folder on my desktop.
I have that folder in my Current Directory.
my Server interface is: 192.168.0.101
On DHCP Server Tab is:
IP pool starting address: 192.168.0.50
Size of pool: 1
Bootfile: aqua.bin
WINS/DNS Server: 0.0.0.0
Default router: 0.0.0.0
Mask: 255.255.255.0
Domain Name: "blank"
Additional Option: 0

What am I doing wrong?
Can anyone help?
