Upgrading my FO Tank to reef

Need some advice please. I am in the planning stages of upgrading my 125gal FO tank to reef (72x18x22H). I currently have two 400gph pumps returning water to my tank from my sump. A very respected member of RC recommended adding 2 tunze 6080s to my tank to achieve the needed circulation for the addition of corals. My question(s) is...where do I place the tunze's? Hang on the side or buy the fake rocks and hide in there? Also, where in the tank to put...at the ends, at angles?? Lastly, so I use any type of wavemaker/timer, or just let 'em go? Thanks for the input!

Wavemakers will destroy the pumps and void the warranty- the 6100 is the analogous controllable version. These units are elecctronic and can be controlled by our controllers, the control is not like a usual wavemaker in that the pump speeds up and slows down rather than turn off and on. Now, reading you list I havee a real fear you could ennd up with moray puree if he is staying in the tank. In such a case I can only recommend 2 6000 streams with the multicontroller. The 6000 is smaller but is suitable for your tank and the elecctronics provide a program called Fishcare which turns the pump once every 20 sec if the program turns the pump off. This scares the fish away and prevents catastrophe. The 6080s can only be run on a timer at 1 hr off and on intervals and with a moray or small blennies and gobies this is a hazard.

Thanks for the prompt response. I have already decided to ditch the eel...he bit me last week! No blood and not much pain, but definitely a new pair of underwear!!!:spin2: Assuming the eel is gone, could you readdress...pls keep in mind I'm a newbie, so type real slow. Thanks, GregS

I never liked eels- they always end up looking kind of like a piece of bacon eventually for some reason. The 6000, 2 with a multicontroller is the ideal. Alternatively you could use two 6060 or 6080. In this situation you will use timers to control your flow or just constantly run them. The 6080 flow carries 6 ft so one at a time is generally enough. The 6060 is for 4 ft so an overlap interval is good with maybe short times with one off. Forgive my typing, the keys on my laptop are smaller than my fingers- I really do have an education.
