Upgrading from a prism on my 75g. to either an octopus or an aqua c remora pro. Needs to be HOB. If I get an octopus (which I'm leaning toward) should I get a 100F or 300F.

Thanks

I believe either Octopus would be better than a Remora which seems to work for some but little for others. My own experience with the Remora was very very disappointing. Good Luck!

get the 300f for your skimmer. they are a little nicer and i run a remora, not a bad unit, but wouldnt put it on anything bigger than a 30 gal tank. there is a thread on here that goes through many mods that people have done to them, and the skimmate pics are impressive.

Bermuda? luke33 I'm surprised you did not offer that as an option, even though it was not one of the choices,

Was just trying to answer his question between the two : ) But yes, the bermuda rogue, turbofloater blue 3000 or deltec mce 600 would be a better choice.

Thank goodness I'm in no rush for the 300F. From what I see, not many websites have it in stock. Thanks for the help everyone

is more effective to have a skimmer like the octo BHF300F skimming the surface of the water or a skimmer like the HB-300 where the intake pumps are lower in the water column? Just curious...

Well, its nice if you get alot of surface skum, but you can always get rid of that if you have a powerhead break the water surface a bit.

I don't have the link but I've seen it before and I'm sure I would be able to find it. I have made an executive decision to buy this skimmer. I have already pre-ordered it. Thanks a lot for the advice and help everyone!

There's no reason to mod it imo. Your just asking for those small pump's to burn up. The slightest error will yield in very bad results.

I understand. I personally wouldnt mod anything because I would be too nervous I would screw something up. I took off the surface skimmer to my fluval today because it was a piece of crap that constantly made the fluval spit out micro bubbles. Of course in no less then 5 minutes the surface has a bunch of crap on it. Yes the surface is being broken by 3 power heads and the output to the fluval. Hopefully the surface skimmer on the octo will do the trick.

Thanks

The skimmer works great out of the box, you don't have to mod it. Its optional. It will but you will need to shorten the intake to make it work though.
pre-order is available at reefspecialty fyi

Yes i spoke to the guy at reefspecialty today... When you say the surface skimmer will clean the surface but i need to shorten the intake to make it work... What does that mean? How do I shorten it?

Thanks a lot for your help and advice... Everything is greatly appreciated!

the intake tube is too long, if you use the surface skimming box it will be submerged. You can take off the intake tube and hack saw it to the appropriate length so that the surface skimming box sticks up a little above the water for it to skim.

The tube does come off. ;) You'll see when you get yours. The bh300f does not require any sawing though only the regular bh100f. From what I read people had to shorten the intake in order to use the surface skimming box or else it'd be submerged and be useless.
