well i just now got my len "canon macro 100 2.8

took a few pics,most came out very bad ..but those were all hand held. put this baby on the very cheap... tripod, now were talkin!

I still need to learn this lens, boy does it have a very short depth of field!

You'll have better luck if you get out of f/32.

Your camera starts getting diffraction at roughly f/13.
 
Don't get me wrong, sometimes there are reasons to make that trade-off. You just need to understand the risks.
 
When shooting tank shots the bigger problem is what f/32 does to your shutter speed.

I'm just above a point&shot skill level, but I'm learnning. I am guessing your talkin about lower shutter speed when using f/32. if so... i see your point, but as long as im shooting non moving objects, i dont see any trouble using f/32, unless difffraction is the problem with sharpness ? I just have to remember to turns pumps off while shooting, i hear that helps alot
