UPS Sucks

I was having 6 fish and 1 invert shipped overnight on Thursday to be delivered to me on Friday. I actually placed my order on Tuesday morning, and postponed the shipping date because I would have more time to deal with acclimation and everything on Friday.

Well... my package didn't show up yesterday. NO INFO from UPS was given to me, despite calling 4 times throughout the day and explaining to them it was livestock, and time sensitive. So I ended up waiting by my door from 9am to 7pm, and the status on my package showed "On Time" in UPS's system.

Anyway... I wake up to see this (check out the red box), and there is now a 0% chance that any of this livestock will get to me alive.

So... a major thumbs down to UPS, a company that definitely has their head up their

The company I purchased everything from has assured me they will take care of it, but that's not the point.

That can't be next day, because it was originally scanned on the 26th. That whole situation makes no sense to me at all. Having worked in the industry for the better part of 2 years, I will say that all carriers have these kind of horror stories, and the only one that we consistently had problems with in Wheeling were USPS and DHL (now out of business in the States.) I know that at one point, nobody guaranteed livestock (the carrier companies), so I hope that you can get your money back...

Arrived in LA on the 26th, but there's no departure scan for LA.
No arrival scan for KY, but a departure scan on the 28th.
So what happened in between?

Yesterday:

I talked to the retailer yesterday about this, and they said that UPS experienced a mechanical delay with one of their planes and not all the boxes would make it on time. So UPS upgraded everything to Saturday delivery.

However, when I called UPS the customer service agent denied all of that, and said there was no way the retailer would have access to that kind of information... and the package was still showing an "on time" status and should be at my house before 7pm.

Today:

Woke up to the above tracking status showing Monday, March 2 as the new delivery date.

I called UPS immediately and was told that delivery would be Monday... and that they could not contact anyone, because no local branches were open. Also, that the package WAS NOT upgraded to Saturday delivery, and was not requested as such by the retailer either. I then was informed by UPS to begin filling out a claim, contact the retailer, and to send the claim in when the package arrived here on Monday.

Anyway... lucky I didn't head out the door to my little sister's basketball game after I talked to UPS, just in case.

Guess what just showed up. :rolleye1:

How the heck does UPS have NO idea what is going on???

Everything is still kicking... but the bags are COLD.

I'm using the invert as the barometer... and since he looks to still be alive in the bag I think that is a good sign.

Reef Hot Spot really packaged the stuff well. There were 2 large heat packs inside the cooler which was taped shut.

WTH are you doing over here????

UPS has dropped the ball many times for me, even for non-fish related items.
Last Fall, I ordered some corals that were supposed to be delivered on a Friday. I waited all day and nothing. That night I received an email that said the package had been damaged. I sent an email to the sellar and went to bed. Saturday morning, UPS sent another email that said the package would be delivered on Monday. The temps. were supposed to be around 35 degrees and I couldn't be home to get the package until 11:00 PM. I told UPS that I was rejecting the delivery, and to return the package to the shipper so they could file a claim - which lead to an issue with the seller, but that's another story.

Get your the shipping charges refunded. Anytime a scan is missed or the package is not delivered on time you are owed the shipping costs. Contact the Reef Hot Spot and tell them you want your money back for shipping.

IMO it looks like the package missed the flight out of LA, when it arrived at the Monroeville center in New Stanton someone noticed it was already late and put a Saturday delivery sticker on it. Not that it fixes everything, but someone in New Stanton was trying to fix the problem the best they could at that point and time.

FedEx is the best for overnight, IMO. I have had bad stories with just regular shipping with USPS and UPS. FedEx all the way! I sent a package at 5pm from Reading, Pa and it was delivered to TX at 12pm the next day. It was standard overnight, before 3pm.

How is everything? Has it all made the long cold trip?

I agree... I will be asking for them specifically with any future livestock shipments.

Everything seems to be doing good so far. The anthias seem to be doing well in QT (so well that I will probably move them over after just 1 week). Also, I spotted the pistol shrimp and yasha hase white ray goby the other day... so they're still hanging in there as well.

I very seldom had problem with UPS meeting their commit times, and like I said, I worked for a store like a mailboxes etc for 2 years so I should know. All their systems are automated, if you've ever seen their sorting facilities, and mistakes are bound to happen sometimes...I'll guarantee FedEx is no exception.

I can't remember the exact number, but I believe we are above 90% for on time deliveries. That number is amazing, last night we moved over 150,000 pieces in 3 hours. That is a slow night too. Our building in New Stanton is 8.5 scres.

I used to work for Fed Ex Ground they were no better...USPS we actually move a lot of their pieces.
