Upset with shipping practices

Maybe there was a time MD was one of the few places that had low prices, times have changed.There are a lot of stores out there better than MD, both for the variety, low prices and better customer service. Do a web search. Example:Premium aquatics/

Oh for all those other PA loyalists...Can we just call the war off now? I mean shessh you never see me over on the PA forum looking for upset customers and telling them to look up MD. Sheesh.
 
I, for one, love the free shipping on the VHO light bulbs if you order 6 or more at a time. I can't argue with that. If it takes ten days to get it to me, hey, it's free shipping. If I need it tomorrow, I order from www.aquatictech.com which is the next state over so it is next day ground.
 
I love MD and have never had any trouble with them at all...I love there great customer service and the prices are the lowest around... So you had to pay for some shipping and handling, you probably would of paid that in the price of whatever you bought from MD if you purchased it at the LFS.

Lot of whining over just $12.00

Actually this really isn't true. If you look at the sponsers forum and go down this there will be several stores who have better prices for the most part. The only thing I've seen MD blow everyone else away for is ozonizers.

Secondly, MD doesn't just price match, they price match with shipping and then you lose UPS's shipping discounts (and you only get this if you ordered over $175 worth of stuff - all of my orders aren't over $175).

Yes, other stores might not offer you UPS's shipping discount but I can name 3 stores I deal with now that all have given me an additional 10% items after dealing with them on a consistant basis and talking with them. Luckily they are on the east coast so the shipping is easy.

Lastly, look I was more upset with their customer service. I asked them a question and they dismissed it by saying we don't know why this is the way it is, it just is, when they did know. I posted this thread to get an explanation from them. There are a few of their reps who seem like they don't care much about the customer. Some of them are nice, but depending on who you talk to it can be a whole different story. I'll give you two recent examples of two different stores I deal with now to show you what I mean by customer service.

Store #1
I brought 2 250W SLS ROIII w/ blue wave VII's (icecap's eballast) and 10k XM DE bulbs. Because I was using 10k's I got 4 t5 Bluepluses. It turns out that icecap's ballast don't always work with XM's 10k bulbs, which is what happened to me. The store not only took back the 10k bulbs to exchange with phoenix 14k's (which they recommended to me), but also 2 of the t5's to get aquablues because it would have been way to blue in my tank and paid for all the shipping. They didn't have to take the t5's back because technically, there was nothing wrong with them, but they understood that the XM's/icecap problem was messing up my lighting.

Store #2
Got a BL 800 to try. I told them I wanted to test it out to see how good it works but might want to switch to a t4 later. They said no problem, test it out (not run it on an aquarium), then dry it out and send it back to us, and this is a big internet store. MD would never have offered something like that, they would have refused to take the pump back from jump.

I do think MD has the best website but since I switched to other companies, Ive just seen a lot of good customer service.

lol this really is one of the funnier threads i have read in a long time. there just is no pleasing some people.

get over it man , they offer you a promotion , if you need it faster than that promotion is not applicable to you.

oh BTW , they prolly waste more resources dealing with customers like you than they could ever hope to make off you. I sure no one there is crying about losing your business : )
 
Isn't that funny considering you saw my post in Premium Aquatics forum saying how good they are. I saw your post saying how good their customer service was also. And your right, I'm not please by bad customer service. And can you guess which store is 1 and 2, but I'm sure you already know considering what you said in the other thread.

You have no clue about posting in the PA's forum? Well, someone is using your username then buddy or was it you who said you prefer ordering from Premium Aquatics over Marine Depot (exact words).

what i said was I'd prefer to order from PA because they are closer to me and I'd get it faster but i have a hard time turning down MD's free shipping and they should consider matching it .....

I have never had an issue with MD and infact 90% of my orders come from them. I enjoy the fact that they give free shipping and also price match other sites prices . only down side is i don't live next door to them so it takes 5 working days to get here.

it is absolutely ridiculous that you would complain like this about a free service they are providing to you not being good enough ..... really you should apologize to them.

they hands down have the best prices on the net on every single item that i have checked . they guys there are also very helpful and i like dealing with them. however I don't order from them because MD will price match them and give me free shipping...

So now there are two places you rather order from over Marine Depot, haha. But I guess your lucky with Marine Depot because I thought they priced match with shipping. So they take into account how much shipping would cost you at the other store when they price match. And what about the orders you make under $175 (remember the free shipping from UPS is only for those orders over $175), do you ever make order under 175? Do you still go with them or the other two stores you prefer to use over them since free shipping is no longer an issue but you said 90% of your orders were from MD?

Again, I'm could care less about $8 shipping, what bothers me is their customer service or them not explaining thing to you when you ask.
 
i "rather" order from which ever one gives me the best prices and 90% of the time it is MD.

frankly all the customer service rep should have to say is sorry we can not extend the free shipping promotion to expedited shipping options. there is no reason why they should have to go through a detailed explanation of why not. In the end it doesn't matter if you like or dont like the reason why they don't. the fact is the free shipping doesn't apply to expedited shipping , having them walk you through the reasons why serves nothing...
 
Firstly, I didn't only bring up an issue of free shipping with expedited shipping or I would have titled the thread that. The first thing that agitated me was the chiller and when I started this thread I had every intention of bringing it up. Again, you should read thru the thread before posting. BTW, for your info, the reason I got a shipping charge on the chiller as explained to me at the time was because they supposedly don't offer the "free" shipping promotion with price match. Thats why they never explained why I got free shipping for a JBJ chiller a few weeks prior but not for the aqualogic, the only difference is I price matched the aqualogic. So its not that they don't ever tell you something, you get all sorts of different responses from the reps.

Lastly, this is narrow view of customer service. Maybe, thats what you like from your customer service, but I like people to tell me whats going on. All they had to do was say the truth, that these are savings we get from UPS for ground shipping that we pass over to customers who buy more than $175. Therefore, its not applicable to expedited services. And I would have been okay I understand.
