May 2nd, 2016 - Photo Update

Once again, it's been a few days since I've posted an update. Sticking with my resolution to continue posting, I'm gonna keep putting posts out there. Comments are always appreciated.

Cherry Corals - Boo Berry - I have high hopes for this coral. It's been a very slow grower thus far.

ORA Scrips Green Tip Staghorn

I recently redid some of my scape which resulted in some more open space and a couple archways. Here is a shot of one of my chromis, ducking in behind the arch.

I thought this was a funny photo with the Yellow Tang trying to shoal with the Chromis
Yes, keep them coming! You have awesome photos and an amazing system to take pictures of!

Quick question- how did you arrive at your photoperiod?

Everytime you post new pictures I vacillate between desires, awe, and jealousy. I also run out of ways to praise your photographs and express my admiration without sounding like I'm trying to marry you or stalk you....

As always, beautiful pictures....

Agreed. I've been showing this tank off to some friends in my local reef club recently. What's gets me about this tank is how the whole package is put together. Too often do you see these ultra modern, clean engineered builds, with barren tanks full of white rocks and nothing in them, or fantastic displays with forgettable, yet functional structures and plumbing surrounding them. This tank has the whole package. A stand, light rail, and sump that matches the classiness and execution of the inside of the display. My current favorite tank on RC for sure. Just love the coral growth execution, fish health, scape, color, and especially the character of the wood and stand design

May 7th, 2016 - Photo Update

I just recently finished the 4th month of my Project 365. If you have not been following, I've been taking and posting a photo every day. Started back on New Years and haven't missed a day yet. Here is the summary of the first 4 months. Thanks for looking.

I love your collage of pictures. Your corals and your photography definitely complement each other. I will continue to follow Project 365.

I had the pleasure of seeing this system in person recently and although the pictures are stunning in their own right, it was truly breathtaking. Everywhere you look in the tank there's something cool to see. It was actually too much to take in, as you miss a lot scanning through even the 2nd and 3rd time.

Don't even get me started on the stand, it truly is a piece of art work. So clean and buttoned up. And the height was just perfect. I couldn't believe how nearly silent the system was, even when the stand doors were removed.

I could go on and on about every component of the build/reef, but what stood out to me was how nonchalant Brad was about his system and seemed very humble about it. Like as if everything kinda just fell into place and an amazing reef tank was born. I can see how much planning, hard work, and skills went into it.

Great job Brad and thanks for letting me come check it out.

Tony - thanks so much for taking the time to come see the tank and write these kind words. Of all the nice things people have said about the tank, this might be the nicest. Thanks again and see you at an upcoming auction.

Can you share your light schedule and led cycle pleas?

SUPAkg -
LEDs on at 9am and ramp to 100% by 1030
First set of T5s come on at 1030
Second set of T5s come on at 1130
Second set of T5s go off st 530
First set of T5s go off at 630
LEDs ramp from 100% to off from 630 to 10pm

If you have the ATI Powermodule, pm me your email address and I'll send you my ATI file.

Love that boo berry. There's a lot going on in that coral. It'll be fun to see that one grow out.

Reefmutt - it's been a slow grower thus far but I do think it has some potential.

Quick question- how did you arrive at your photoperiod?

Mhucasey - trial and error, reading other tank threads, asking reefers and then setting the schedule around my schedule. I'm home and awake from about 5pm to 10pm so I have the lighting set as I like to see the tank during these hours. I don't care so much for the look when all lights are on so I run this while I'm at work.

Everytime you post new pictures I vacillate between desires, awe, and jealousy. I also run out of ways to praise your photographs and express my admiration without sounding like I'm trying to marry you or stalk you....

Maxxll- never get tired of kind words. Thanks for following and continuing to comment.

Truly beautiful. Very inspiring as I journey closer to having my own reef tank

Luiscarr - thanks and best of luck as you set one up. I'm always happy to provide my opinion. Don't hesitate to send me a PM if you want someone to bounce ideas off of.

Hey Brad,

I love cruising through the pics of your thread. It's very inspiring for a rookie reefer.

Drew - good to hear from you here on *********. Hope all is going well with your new tank.

Bpb - wow, thanks for the very nice words here. This is my 3rd reef and with each build I've learned more things that I'd like to change. I'm sure I'd need 4 or 5 more builds to really nail it. Thanks again!

I'm not sure if the participation is way down on NanoReef these days or what but it seems like there is far less traffic than what I was use to. At any rate, here is the latest round of photos to keep the journal up to date.

Thanks for looking! Comments are always appreciated.

I will get tonight's photos kicked off with a recent FTS. I took this from a very high angle to give a different perspective of the aquarium and the sizes of a few of my corals. . I liked out all the Chormis were hanging together

This is a shot of the front side of the peninsula. This gives you zoom in of that center section from the FTS above.

Here is a shot of my Purple Humilis taken just before the last light went out for the night. I thought this shot had a neat look to it.

Tort Combo - Here is a shot, again in very low light of my Cali Tort and Great Oceans Wonder Tort. The GOW came from a local reefer (Thanks Jeff P.)

One more very low light shot taken of one of my favorite acans.

It doesn't matter how many times I view all of these photos it's always a breath of fresh air to me. May I ask how often your hands (tinkering/rescaping) are in the tank?

Reef keeping is life!

Agreed on the full tank shot. I could stare at a tank like that all day! I do have a question for you. How are you liking the ATI unit? I just ordered a ReefSavvy 90 gallon custom tank and I'm contemplating a combo of MH, T5, and LED (Giesemann Spectra & Kessil). It would be way more practical for me to simply go with the ATI unit but I love shimmer in my tanks. That said, every tank I see with predominantly T5 setups has amazing growth and color.

deaclauderdale - Thanks for the view and comments. I'd say my hands are in the tank about once a week during a water change. I clean the glass every 2nd day which can lead to the hands going in if necessary. Other than that, I try to stay out of the tank.

That full tank shot is awesome! Nice and packed with coral, just like I like it!

mhucasey - Many thanks.

Yup. Love the depth in that full shot..
Beautiful!

reefmutt - Thanks!

choss - Thanks for the kind words, I do spend several hours a day staring into the tank. :) I use to run a Giesemann Infiniti T5/MH fixture on my last tank. I loved that light. Since this build was going in my living room(middle of the house) I did not want to have to deal with heat from the MH. For this reason, I went with the ATI Powermodule. I'm able to run the T5's when I'm at work and then come home to the tank running LEDs set to how I want to view the tank. Plenty of shimmer with the LEDs.

Really comes down to the pros/cons that are well documented on the different lights. For me, the lack of heat issues was the driving factor in not going with MH.

What lighting do you use for photographing the tank?

reefmutt - I don't use any particular lighting when I take my photos. It's easiest to shoot with as much light as possible since you have more flexibility of your exposure. I often take pics when there is just a small amount of light left while other times I shoot with full light. That last FTS was 100% light, all T5's and LEDs on at the same time.

I love this shot....however, it makes your tank appear smaller than it really is:

Maxxll- indeed it does, I thought the same thing when I posted it. I almost referenced that the tank was 6 foot long and 3 foot across. For reference, the Strawberry Shortcake table is a foot across.

Do you fear jumpers? I've lost a few in the past, and now have screens on both tanks. Kills the look for sure

Mpderksen- I have had a few jumpers over the years. This is my 3rd tank, all rimless without a top so my fish choices lean towards non jumpers but it does happen.
