Urbanek's 250

May 30th, 2016 Photo Update

Here is FTS that also includes my cabinet. I find it difficult to get a good photo of both the tank and the cabinet, so this was a blend of two photos.

Absolutely breathtaking woodwork- I've made a lot of wood furniture and I love the richness and character of the wood you went with- and what a story behind it too!

Man that is an amazing pic. I love peninsula tanks. I hope my next house house an area for a peninsula. I know a lot of people do custom tanks and put them in wall, that would never work for me. I love being able to see my tank from 3 sides.

Great job keeping an amazing Sps tank!

Brad, you've received enough praise to make anyone's head swell, but it doesn't seem to spoil you. All of it deserved, by the way.

I'm in the restaurant biz and have learned the value of good lighting (drama, not par). And when I hear someone mention negative space it reminds me of how I try to explain to my cooks that less is more and the value of negative space in plate composition.

Makes me smile to see you employ these concepts so effectively, and I truly LOVE seeing a tank that balances animal husbandry with aesthetic beauty so well. Sometimes, the designer acro race gets tiresome, and it's so rewarding to see someone who cares more about these other goals.

Thank you.

mhucasey - As I've said many times, I appreciate the time you take to check in and make comments on the journal. Like you, I've a fan of wood working and all of the amazing things that can be done with it. Blending woodworking and reefing is a great benefit of having multiple hobbies.

Simply amazing. That's a frameable pic.

Ddial - Thanks so much!

SchnitzelReef - Thanks for stopping in to check out the tank again. Peninsulas have their pros and cons but for me the pros do out weigh the cons. I'm with you on the in wall tanks. While they are beautiful, I think you lose some dimension to the tank.

roosterchef - Really great insight! I had never considered negative space, rule of thirds, etc when looking a dinner plate but you are absolutely correct. I also appreciate the comment about the praise not spoiling me... I love to share info with fellow reefers both new and experienced. Again, thanks so much for leaving the kind words.

May 31st, 2016 - May Photo Recap

As I've done at the end of each month, here is a recap of all the photos I took of the tank in May. Thanks to all who have viewed, commented and liked. I appreciate the feedback and having the opportunity to share my reef.

Every time I check this thread I get inspired. I can't wait until my next build so I can learn/ shamelessly copy all that I can from this thread.

I agree that fts forgo so much detail, but I also think that very close up shots do as well. I love the pictures that show both the beauty of the corals you have as well as how they are placed within the tank and how they interact with everything else. Gives a great sense of awe seeing it all come together so artfully.

Thank you so much for sharing this tank with us!!

This is the coolest wallpaper!!
When you get to 12 months, you may take a whole page with one post. That's going to be really neat to see.

It's been a few days since I've updated. Here are few new photos. Thanks for looking.

One of my all time favorites. I feel fortunate to have found this guy

A shot of one of my few zoas

Had an opportunity to see this tank in person today (and get two unbelievably generous frags). The tank is absolutely stunning, but what you notice most is how fat the fish are while still having a spotless tank and beautiful coral coloration. This tank is absolute proof that with the right nutrient export you can really have it all!
